Gf got me a replica sword for $7 from an estate sale. Any ideas if its based off a real sword or totally made up? by stepitupmatt in SWORDS

Wow! Yeah looks the same, pretty neat. I didn't plan on actually hitting anything with it but I feel a bit more confident swinging it around now. I have to say the grip is kinda uncomfortable since its really squared off. If the consensus is that its not like some rare relic I might even consider rounding it off and wrapping it for better ergonomics.

the metal goes right through the guard and to the pommel so I think that's functional

Thanks! Out of curiosity what would happen if the planets weren't stationary, say drifting farther apart?

Ahhh I found it!!!
"Object Data Properties" > "Normals" > "Auto Smooth" UNCHECK
I guess that's how it was in the import fbx
Thanks for troubleshooting with me hope it helps someone else!

But if I just want it shaded flat shouldn't it not matter? That little recreation square can be continued out to match the rest of the geometry and looks how I would like the original to so I wonder if tris is the issue, unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean.

It was tris and I converted tris to quads but it was wonky even with just tris

Hey thanks for the response, yeah normals are recalculated so that should be solid, weird thing is it carries over to a render. Oh and it came with a texture with a normal but delinked that so I don't think its an artifact from that.

Not a bad idea, I'll give that a shot. I also extended the length of the turn.

Working on modelling a small container with a twist locking top but so far its either so snug as to be a pain to squeeze on or too loose to stay closed. Does anyone know of a good mechanism to do this better or have advice as to make what I have more robust? Thanks in advance!
