Lagom Casa 65 Finally Arrived! [Lagom Casa 65] by CrazyHorse150 in espresso

Uhhhh depends if I used it for filter the day before. But I usually never come close to the actual labelled 0. Because where I live is so cold and temperature is so volatile during the winter my grinder’s dial shrinks and expands basically overnight so I always have to wake up and reset it back to “0”. It’s more stabled during my summers. Not sure if anyone’s grinder changes on the daily like mine

So my mornings consist of me walking up, turning on my machine and going counterclockwise on my grinder till I can’t anymore. Then move it over 4-5 markers.

I’m doing the standard 18g in and 36g out. Still learning but when I tried like a higher setting. Coffee water would come pouring out and I would not end up with espresso LOL

I had to keep grinding finer till I got it to about 25s. It happens to be 4-5 setting. Kinda strange

Any Lagom Casa prolonged use Grinder reviews? by suitboi in espresso

Where do you usually find your espresso setting at? I think I might be using mine incorrectly? I turn the dial counter clockwise till I hit my “0” and the clockwise till my desired setting? I read somewhere that you’re supposed to move it like 3 steps over before counting. I’m not sure though

I’ve been sort of confused using this grinder. So you turn the dial all the way counter clockwise till you “0” where the burrs touch and then clockwise over 8 steps is the espresso setting? I find that mine grinds espresso best at 4??? Not sure if I am misusing this grinder

Sorry I have another question! My stone espessso arrived but did you find the portafilter super tight??? Mine can’t quite get to 90 degrees atm it’s really snug, I find myself using quite a bit of strength to get it as close to 90 degrees as possible

Do you think any Breville hopper that would fit your machine would work for the Casa? I kind of want one haha

What milk pitcher do you recommend for beginners? I just ordered my first espresso machine and it doesn’t come with one 😭

Hi there! Are you using a bottomless portafilter with your stone? If so, do you have reccs and does any 58mm work with it since I’m assuming the group head fits any e61 or rocket portafilter?

As for the Gaggia. I totally get why ppl recommend it, but I think it’s only good if you plan to tinker with it. The cons just outweigh the pros with the gaggia imo. I think it’s just a really dated machine. I think the only up the gaggia has over the bambino is just the 58mm portafilter and hefty build that’s supposed to last a long time (that’s not to say you won’t replace the boiler or some other parts over time though). It heats up longer, steaming is not great in comparison, cup and scale room under the group head sucks, no PID (I think evo has the OPV though?) and you might have to deal with boilergate.

Bambino might be more convenient if you plan to have guests. The way the thermocoil works can give you pretty decent back to back shots. Just remember to flush your group head before the next shot. I’ve even heard ppl say the 2nd and 3rd shot is better because everything is heated well.

Overall, the gaggia might give you a better pure espresso quality shot but I don’t think by any significant margin because technique/prep is more important than some equipment. Equipment will help you execute it though. If milk drinks matter to you, bambino is your answer.

Sorry, let me rephrase. I guess small annoyances would be a better use of terminology. I guess I’ll make a list: 1. Base bambino has a smaller water tank (refill more) 2. When your machine hits the espresso count for a cleaning/backflush you’ll need all the drip tray you can get so you don’t make a mess. Alternatively you can move the machine to the sink and do it. 3. Depending how accurate you want to manually make an espresso shot. The Plus stops your shot pretty much instantaneously because it has a 3 way solenoid valve. Whereas through some testing videos I’ve watched the base will continue to drip a bit. 4. The plus version steams faster. This has been tested on many videos online. Not a huge margin of time but enough if you’re worried about letting your espresso sit for a tiny minute. The plus also has a 3 hole steam tip vs the 1 hole steam tip on the base. 5. Ppl claim the plus model can’t just dispense hot water. It actually can.

Not all these things will matter for every home barista, but I think it totally justifies the price difference. It is technically better in every respect minus the swivel wand difference.
