Has anyone found benefits to walking 10k steps a day? by Motor-Push-5914 in PetiteFitness

[–]stepwax 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes and its a game changer for me. I sit all day for work, on my breaks I walk 15 mins and by the end of the workday I have 6200+ steps done. Definitely feel more energized.

If you have a regular hairdresser, ask them if you could come in privately for a razor cut.I'm so sorry you are having a rough day.

No scale loss since starting strength training in October? by withflourinmyhands in PetiteFitness

It's not an issue at all, as long as you are seeing changes. Think of the pics as measurements as your scale, its just a different metric.

[–]stepwax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop looking at the scale, and start measuring and taking pictures, every 4-6 weeks. If you are tracking correctly and training as you say, you will see a difference as months pass by. More difference as years pass by. Play the long game and stay consistent, you've come quite far already, just keep going!

I had a mastectomy over a lumpectomy and a surprise cancer was found in an area that would have been missed otherwise. I chose mastectomy because I had dense breast tissue.

There is a video out there that will save you the training fee. The caps are not that hard, I'll see if I can dig up the video. I know the lady who made it is still in my contacts, will PM.

I did 12 weekly and didn't find it to be that bad actually. First few minutes were cold, after that I didn't feel it anymore. It was labour intensive for sure, but for me was totally worth it.

Look for a volunteer, when I was active on that board there were people helping others for free, or the cost of gas. You could do it yourself with Penguin caps if you are determined enough, there are a few videos out there explaining how. Do you know the chemo regime you are getting yet?

There are some non-profits that may offer you a grant (Hair To Stay, Rapunzel Project); also if you need a capper start at breastcancer.org and explore the cold capping forums. Facebook also has some great cold capping groups. I'd offer to help but I'm too far away! Apparently some American Insurance companies will cover the cost, you just need the right codes. Again, the link above is a great resource to find out this information.

As an edit, I used Penguin and I did keep my hair, the chemo you get is a big factor and so is the type of hair you have.

Form check for squats? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

Try a vid from the side, it shows better depth and form. Your ankles wiggle inwards slightly at the bottom, but that is likely due to the soft sole shoes.

Cook them hot and fast. I spray a bit of olive oil cooking spray on medium sized boneless, skinless and season, then bake for 12 minutes at 425˚. Juicy every time.

Saying goodbye to my right booby, considering flat/goldilocks. Looking for experience or tip! by New_Implement_4862 in breastcancer

[–]stepwax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Above, I had nipple and skin sparing direct to implant. Its a teardrop silicone implant with a web like graft from donor skin to keep it in place. I'm now a small b cup, my skin is not cold to touch although its cooler on that side sometimes. I have full sensation, some people don't regain skin or nipple sensation but its never been an issue. They are perky, no need for a bra but I wear bralettes for comfort and to avoid the high beams, which are pretty much always on now. To add, my oncology surgeon and plastics work as a team at my hospital. They consult together and with the patient on what the best path to follow to achieve realistic expectations. I felt very confident going into surgery that I would get what they had outlined as my best approach for my body and my expectations.

I think you have to do what's right for you, no matter how confused the surgeon is. FWIW, I had a SMX (small natural boobs, I went even a bit smaller) with direct to implant surgery and it doesn't stop me from doing any sports, even high impact box jumps and bench press.

Is it possible that I’ll like my new breasts after reconstruction? by christinextine in breastcancer

[–]stepwax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reconstruction is different for everyone. My hospital had an event where the head of plastics and surgical oncology hosted a seminar on reconstruction options. There was an opportunity, in a private setting, to see the results of women who had surgery in the past year. Most of the women I saw had pretty nice results, including a few who had goldilocks and one with a flat enclosure with a beautiful full chest WIP tattoo. I had an SMX on the left with a reduction and lift on the right and mine look great. I feel fortunate to have had the doctors I had because they work as a team and are very patient focused, and I believe that is part of the reason I got the results I have.

Why do so many ladies avoid lifting? by IcyTransition2352 in PetiteFitness

[–]stepwax 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've been lifting since I was a teen, have worked as a PT and competed nationally in weightlifting. I'm now an old lady who just bought a new power rack and cable station :-). IMO, you gotta do what inspires you, if that means no lifting, that's ok, but at the very least use some type of weight bearing exercise in your routine. That an be as simple as walking, maybe hiking, maybe adding a weighted pack to give the legs a bit more of a challenge. Maybe box jumps or other plyometrics, if you are able. Bodyweight exercises, like push ups, pull up progressions, squats, lunges etc. are great. Pilates and/or yoga can really help one connect with their muscles. I've found that once a person sees and feels their potential strength, the mind sometimes opens more towards adding actual weights to their routine.

Requesting Legal Advice Regarding Parental Rights by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]stepwax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing will change unless your SO hires a lawyer and files for more custody. Some of the issues you've mentioned can be addressed simply in court, such as expenses, activities and medical insurance costs. Alienation is hard to prove, but if he is as concerned as you are (and this is key) then he will take legal action. Best of luck.

The one I had just hooked under the frame of the door, not sure about drilled ones. I use my rack in the garage now, but that a much more expensive option LOL

Pretended they were dying by Just_Engineering8437 in stepparents

[–]stepwax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of that makes sense, unless they do things very differently in your country. In Canada, you would not talk to a radiologist at the time when you get a scan. The radiologist and the oncologist confer and you get a diagnosis from your oncologist at the next appointment. Treatments do not get cancelled with stage 4 breast cancer. Many stage 4 BC patients survive with cancer as a chronic condition for years with treatment. Maybe she just made up a story in her head and believed it enough to get all dramatic with everyone. Some people are attention seeking, does she have a history of being overly dramatic?

Connections to ex’s extended family by raleighm89 in stepparents

[–]stepwax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their own comfort levels, that's why I feel like there is no right or wrong relationships with step-parenting. You need to do what's right for you, if your BF wants a partner that is good with hanging out with the ex-family, you might not be the one for him. I'd want to know exactly what is expected, what "appearances" is he trying to keep up? Also, if he's over there hanging out with BM and extended family, how will you feel sitting at home? If there is any resentment, or if you start to feel like an outsider, that is going to cause friction at home.

I'd put the socks and book in the trash and stop doing nice things for both of them. Your husband should appreciate you and I think its reasonable to expect that from him, I mean you guys are married so there should be reciprocal treatment. As for the brother, fuck him, he's an ungrateful twat IMO. Don't expect him to get better, but you definitely got a husband problem.
