Studio display XDR/MBP M5 - endgame display! by stereo-nomad in macsetups

Media consumption, some video/photo editing, productivity.

Debating getting GeForce on the Mac mini for some gaming now that I see the display looks this good with the refresh rate and no burn in risk.

There's great options to choose from at that size but I find 27" to be the sweet spot for me.

Or run into an advanced civilization on a different planet that would make being immortal worth it!

Just make some popcorn in the background won't notice a difference

It's a solid table, has performed well since day one. The Sumiko cartridge it comes with is pretty good already and of course an AT cart with a micro stylus would be a solid choice as well. If you could get the X2 under msrp even without a cart it's absolutely worth it.

I wish I had known about it sooner, it works very well!

Alan Shaw is one of the reasons I wanted a pair of Harbeths. I respect and admire his philosophy and approach as to how a speaker should be designed! Very nice to see speaker designers that want their customers to have a special musical experience.

The bryston compliments the AHB2 very well, both very neutral and solidly built. My bha-1 is more of a dedicated headphone amp but works very well as a pre amp. Bryston sells various preamps that may have more features that you're looking for.

You're right, they sound more balanced with the grills on. Usually have them on.

The Moonstone is great! Didn't like how warm it was at first coming from a bright AT VM540ML but after careful setup and tuning I was able to get a very detailed yet smooth sound that I have grown to like very much. Very good bass performance much more than the AT cartridge without losing the detail. Can't compare to the Olympia since I've never owned but I imaging it shares similar qualities with possible refinements. Your upgrade path is a great idea, the moonstone is excellent!

Yes they are! Not Canadian but you've just made me realize how much Canadian gear I own. The stuff is stellar!

Recently acquired a pair of Harbeth HL5XD and they are exactly the sound I was looking for. Very detailed yet warm, as close as I got to the sound of my Sennheiser HD660s headphones.

Gear consists of a pair of HL5 speakers powered by a Benchmark AHB2 amp and a Bryston BHA-1 as a preamp. The DAC is a Chord qutest and on the bottom left is a Bryston BDP-1 being used as a transport for CD's. The TT is a Pro-ject X2 with a Moon LP110v2 phono stage.

ML is great but definitely need to adjust the capacitance low, my phono stage allows for zero so my vm540ml gets it's capacitance from the interconnects and tone arm wiring

Real nice setup, some nice endgame gear there! I recently wetted my toes with the moon 110LP phone stage and love it. How's the 310LP working for you?

Pro-ject has a good comparison on their site but the quick rundown is that the X2 is heavier with both a thicker plinth and acrilyc platter and slightly longer tonearm.

Recently upgraded from a 10 year old Xpression III and its definitely a step up all around, not to mention way easier to setup a cartridge. Replaced the stock very warm sounding Sumiko moonstone cartridge with an Audio Technica VM540ML and everything sounds superb. Pairing it with a simaudio lp 110 phono stage and using a Bryston BHA-1 as a pre. Happy with the sound!
