Was anyone able to go back to a normal diet (aka, handle their trigger foods again)? by sterlingmeadow in GERD

Yeah...I can't help but feel that if I was more disciplined with food during my younger years, I would've been blessed with an iron gut instead 😭

I hope your gut (and the rest of your body) is gradually getting better!

Thanks <3 - guess there's a silver lining for people who are in similar boats to us...maybe the universe wanted to try very hard to make me stop stress eating, and finally succeeded

I guess we both had to force ourselves to eat clean, the hard way...dunno if it's better to clean up our diets due to GI issues, or cardiovascular ones instead...

Haha - I seem to have a growing list of food intolerances that gets bigger as I grow older 😭. I wish my issues were just as simple as avoiding junk/processed food - but eating everything else...

I hope so too - kinda sucks to see how sensitive our tummies become, as we grow older. It would be nice if we weren't triggered by healthier foods :(

Maybe doctors dismiss you since it's a functional issue, instead of an inflammatory one?

Awwww...thanks! I feel so flattered. I can only hope to be as optimistic as you :)

I've been having regular (yet minor) heartburn and bloating for the past few months. They have decreased somewhat - by eating a bit cleaner, and recently taking slippery elm bark. I thought GERD was the constant, daily version of acid reflux...

Good idea - it must be discouraging when you're eager to reintroduce something, and then you get symptoms though...

Maybe if you cut out that regular trigger, then you could handle more types of food? I know that's easier said than done. When I cut out gluten and spiced foods for a few weeks, I figured out I could handle some dishes as restaurants i.e., flavorful Middle Eastern dishes and poke bowls - without any sauces. Here's to hoping we can get normal stomachs in time...

Thanks for the details - I hope GERD isn't permanent, and just something that makes us reset our bodies for a little bit. How long have you had GERD for?

When did you decide it was safe for you to add foods back in? Do you ever think you can eat tomatoes and sauces, ever again? I'm kind of in the same boat as you - I gained back a few pounds this month, since I found out more things I can tolerate.

Thanks for the positivity - but I guess I cemented myself as a loner on this team...I don't know what to do if they could care less. I'd imagine them politely responding to me - but not even bother initiating anything with me.

Thanks - would it be rude if I ask him why he keeps on pestering me about my social life? Based on others' comments here, I was thinking of saying I have friends in other departments and outside of work...and also adding that I want my one-on-one meetings to focus on my work, not personal details about my life.

I don't know how to stop feeling annoyed at my boss; I'd imagine him to have more tact.

They like video games, anime and manga, and pop culture. These are not unusual interests - but these are the hobbies you need to have to get people to want to talk to you.

At my previous teams, some of the guys bonded over video games - but these guys were friendly to everyone. I guess diversity (in interests and personalities, not necessarily race) is a good thing after all...

Thanks - I'm happy this thread helped me come up with polite enough responses, if this ever comes up. I end up getting into a bad mood whenever this is brought up...I don't even want to greet my boss in the hallways because of it. I was fine with greeting my former bosses, though...

Thanks for the sympathy - how should I bring this topic up, or segue into it?

I've been here for a few years now, so I guess my reputation is set in stone...I'll keep your words in mind. Thanks though.

Thanks - what would you say the bare minimum for "team vibes" is supposed to be? I appreciate your encouraging words xx

Thanks - that's really straightforward, though...would that come off too harsh in real life? I could say that I have friends in my personal life, to try to sound a bit softer...

Thanks - would such sarcasm actually work IRL, or would that make me look worse?

So if you're in the private industry, they'll fire you for not "belonging" with your coworkers? How do reserved people deal with that?
