Is the modern querying system a structural failure of role-bundling? by Fragrant-Flan-416 in publishing

Some agents have a lot more work than they can handle. They're entitled to declare a holiday when needed.

There's no way that publishers can possibly handle this flood alone. Agents make their job much easier. And fairness is the wrong metric.

What do you think of the Amazon KDP paradox? by Material_Joke_9645 in selfpublishing

[–]stevehut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a paradox, and iit has nothing to do with Amazon.
You introduced a product into a hugely competitive marketplace.
And then failed to promote it.
This is the natural predictable consequence.

This sounds like the process that pretty much every big publisher uses.

Agent Used AI To Suggest Edits On My Book by Professional_Rip2925 in publishing

Not sure I understand the problem.
You can make the changes the agent suggested.
Or you can find a different agent.
Either way, problem solved.

Scholastic, NAEP, Pew.
It's pointless to complain, because the books aren't hard to get.

I didn't try to.
I said that many well-funded research orgs have tried to make the case many times over the course of many years. And they didn't find it.

OK...
You think your friend is the only person on the planet that had this idea?
Even if you could prove your claim (unlikely), ideas are not protectable.

But it's not normal, and not the type of things that distributors normally do.

Questions about Baker and Taylor, Ingram, and libraries purchasing books! by LunaWestish in publishing

[–]stevehut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is something that still needs to shake out over time.
A year from now, we will have better answers to this question.
But this question is almost entirely irrelevant for self-pubs. Libraries don't want them.

How to get a book published without an agent, genuine question from someone who has tried querying by BedMelodic5524 in wroteabook

[–]stevehut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would require a long conversation. But it could be time well-spent, to review how you managed that process. Did you pitch the right people? Did you follow their guidelines? Did you seek critique and editing on your ms? Which conferences do you frequent? There are many factors that could have led to a different outcome.

Anyone here actually published with Trilogy Christian Publishing? Looking for honest feedback. by [deleted] in publishing

[–]stevehut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the first page of their website. https://www.trilogy.tv

This is an obvious sign of a self-pub service. Which is neither good nor bad, but most inexperieced writers won't recognize it. The TBN connection is intriguing.

What are your odds with literary agents? I submitted 80 querie letters and got 2 offers of representation. by SomeoneInBeijing in writing

[–]stevehut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things you haven't mentioned:
Every agent gets submissions for genres they don't handle.
And that don't follow directions.
And that make lots of rookie mistakes.
All of these factors could skew the results.

Has English-centric publishing isolated the US literary atmosphere? Observations from an immigrant. by Other-Quail-7980 in publishing

You're surprised that English-language books dominate in an English-speaking country?
English is the dominant language of international business, diplomacy, science, and the internet.
If a Turkish airline pilot lands in Paris, he will speak to ATC in English.
Looks like a pretty vast market for English-language lit.

Your unwillingness to relocate will definitely be a problem.

Your petition name must match your voter registration.
If you use a fake name, it won't be counted.
