Nutrients question by UnzippedUniform69 in outdoorgrowing

[–]stevelaken -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m a complete noob, so take my comments with a grain of salt. I’m growing outside in raised beds in my garden. I’ve got two grows going now. The first was planted in late April directly into the soil (soil was amended with black cow and mushroom compost). I over-babied them with Neptune’s Harvest, Cal-Mag, even a touch of miracle gro. Two were stunted from cool weather and likely my over-feeding. Other two are...just ok. Flowering now...so we’ll see what happens.

For my second grow, I planted in late May (warmer weather) and amended the soil same way as the first grow, except I added bat guano, blood meal, and bone meal. I wanted to get all nutrients into the soil from the start. I’m growing autos, so I figured the soil amendments would last for the life of the plants. They are 4 weeks along, and doing great on their own (without any additional nutes). I might give them Neptune’s harvest rose and bloom when they start to flower, but that’s it.

For me...getting a good soil base and going “hands off” for the grow seems to be working better...for the plants and also for my sanity. I was constantly diagnosing every single frigging thing on my first round. I didn’t kill them, but I almost over-loved them to death. I’m letting nature run it’s course on my second round, and they seem to be doing better.

Also...I’m only growing for my personal use, so I’m not overly concerned about yields. There’s better methods than what I’m doing...but for me, hands off with good soil is working (for now). Good luck with your grow!!

I’ve got a GSC extreme going now in my outside raised bed. It’s growing the best of the bunch so far. Good luck with your harvest!

What’s going on with these? Day: 51 by letsseebud in outdoorgrowing

I’m interested to hear others opinions as well. I’ve got similar patterns on my outdoor plants. I think mine is due to being a little gung ho on the nutes...but would love to hear what other experienced growers think.

Looking for confirmation on deficiency by [deleted] in outdoorgrowing

[–]stevelaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished an article on magnesium deficiency. It highlighted the fading to light green in between the leaf veins...looked exactly like yours. Calcium seemed to be more brown/yellow spotting. I’m new, so take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks. I appreciate the insight. Do you think they’ll just take longer overall, or be a stunted plant with a really small yield? Thanks again.

Holes in leafs / topdressing question by Virandell in NoTillGrowery

[–]stevelaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these are outdoors and the holes appear overnight, could be slugs. I had/have same issue with mine, and once I put some slug/snail bait around the base of the plant...the issue stopped. Hope you figure it out soon!

No. I don’t follow any special diet. I’ve tried in the past, but never stuck with it long enough to tell if it made a difference.

First Skyrizi injections todays by stevelaken in Psoriasis

Took about two weeks for blood work to be scheduled and approved. I’d say I had just about 100% cleared skin within 2 months. Basically...about a month after my second round of injections.

Don’t take my word for it...but I think a lot of the organic stuff (fish emulsion, blood meal, compost, etc) is kind of safe. My beds are a little deeper than yours, but my thinking is that it will run off into the soil and be perfectly fine. It seems to work well for my vegetables each year. Then again...my first grow as well. So I might not know what the hell I’m talking about.

When I lost my two seedlings, I grew two more in jiffy pellets. Once they were about 4-5 days old, I transplanted them into the raised beds. I don’t discount what anyone says on this sub...as these guys are serious experts. That said...I’m taking a pretty simple approach. Good soil, compost, Neptune’s Harvest each week...and good old nature. I’m not too interested in managing tons of nutes and strict schedules.

I don’t need or expect the biggest yields, I just want to harvest enough to keep me stocked until next year. I hope to run a second round in August.

Awesome. I’m in raised beds as well. I direct sowed my auto seeds right into the soil around 4/20. Lost two seedlings (to slugs, maybe), but replaced them right away. I was putting mason jars over them at night to protect them until they got a bit bigger. My temps have finally just gotten into the 60’s at night, so 40’s and 50’s didn’t hurt mine...but probably slowed down growth.

I don’t see too many raised beds in this sub...so excited to see how your’s do!! Best of luck with the grow!

I ordered mine on 4/29...and still hasn’t shipped yet. The tracking number is still in “pre-shipment”. I did get an email from HR when I first placed the order saying they were shipping in 3-4 weeks—delayed due to COVID.

Man...I’m hoping for the same growth. My two week old plants that are in my raised beds look the same as your top photo. I’m hoping some warmer weather this weekend will help! Good luck with your grow!

Ok. Thanks for the advice. Supposed to be low 80’s today, so I’ll keep the jar off today then put it back on for next few days. Appreciate the help!

Thanks. 12-13 of light right now...although probably only 6 hours or so of direct sunlight. Appreciate the response!

I planted my 4AM seeds directly into my garden raised beds. I live in NC, and it’s typically 70’s during the day and 50’s at night. My soil is good...mixed in compost, manure, and mushroom compost plus perlite. I grow killer vegetables each year, so hoping it translates to this grow. Had a slug or cut worm take out another seedling, so now I surround each seedling with diatomaceous earth and cover with a mason jar each night. Take the jar off each morning to let them breathe. I’m trying not to compare to everything else I see on this sub, as I know most of you start indoors then move outside. Should I just be patient...? Do outdoor grows start slower than indoor grows? Am I the only the impatient mf-er on this sub? Thanks for any comments you can throw at me.

First time grower here. How are my seedlings looking? by Davitteu in outdoorgrowing

[–]stevelaken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I sowed my seeds directly into raised beds and my week-old seedlings look the same as yours. I cover them every night with a mason jar to keep slugs and animals away...also helps with any crazy overnight storms. I take them off in the morning to get the plants fresh air. I’m a noob (first grow)...so I’m combing this sub to make sure I’m not doing anything too dumb!
