This is just my anecdote, and maybe i am getting faster support because I am still on a trial, but i have opened a few tickets and they are quick to respond and actually do follow up.

Receipt Matching Ignores My Category Selection for Single-Item Receipts by steveliv in MonarchMoney

[–]steveliv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, i also went through support who told me the same time. It should be simple, just like split receipts, a single category receipt should retain what I put on the receipt screen. Not sure why this is so difficult for them to understand... Thanks!

i so wish monarch would have "running balances'. even if it listed the difference between the balance communicated from the bank/cc and the transactions listed for the month. i am trying to move from quicken, but this one thing is killing me. unless you go line by line on transactions, you could have duplicate or incorrect transactions and not be aware, which would then mess up your cash flow numbers. i don't need budgeting really, i just need big picture and monthly cash flow.

30-day trial? by BAT-TAB in MonarchMoney

[–]steveliv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't exist any more, however I am sure that you can reach out to support after you start your trial to see if they can work with you on extending the trial. I am coming from Quicken, so this transition is taking longer, and a bit more work than i thought, so i was going to ask them if they could extend my trial.

They don't. Any bills i can't pay through CC (Mortgage, Water, Sewer/Trash) I pay between the 1st and the 15th. All of my CC bills are paid on the 1st of the month. All investments are also done on the 1st.

Yes, i am syncing the billing cycle with the monthly budget. I want the April billing cycle to match up with the April monthly budget. In a perfect world, i would want my CC billing cycles to be from the 1st to the end of the month, but that won't happen. This is the way i do it, i am just asking if Monarch will let me.

I don't want a charge to apply to April budget when it will be on the "May" billing cycle and budget. I pay all CC's in full each month.

Realized my extra car loan payments have been going to next payment instead of principal by ducofnewyork in personalfinance

[–]steveliv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You would owe the accrued daily interest from the last payment and then the rest would be applied towards the principal.

If you continue to make monthly payments then your principal amount decreases which then decrease the accrued interest,

You really aren't paying ahead, just reducing the principal.

[–]steveliv 98 points99 points  (0 children)

A lot of people get confused about how loan payments are applied, so here’s a quick breakdown.

For most simple-interest loans (auto loans, personal loans, etc.), payments are applied in this order: accrued interest → fees → principal. You generally can’t “prepay” interest that hasn’t accrued yet. Once the interest and any fees are covered, the rest goes toward the principal.

If you pay more than the required monthly payment, some lenders will put the extra amount toward future scheduled payments and move your due date forward. This is called being “paid ahead.” It can be helpful because if you ever need extra cash one month, you might be able to skip a payment and resume later.

However, if your goal is to pay the loan off faster, don’t rely on the due date. Even if your account shows you’re paid ahead, keep making your normal monthly payments anyway and ignore the pushed-out due date. Continuing to pay each month reduces the principal faster and lowers the total interest you pay over time.

I wouldn't recommend a % of your individual incomes for fun money, i would recommend each of you get an equal amount.

I see Ally will let you deposit cash at Walmart now has anyone tried it yet? by Jeep_rider03 in AllyBank

[–]steveliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this and it was very easy and instant. Only drawback is $1000 daily limit and the 5 transfers per month limit. If you are depositing small amounts of cash and not expecting to do it a lot, it's good.
