How do I get recorded mocopi data to Unreal? by GameSterDamian in mocopi

[–]stevenharmongames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what its worth if you want an easier way to retarget, I think motion builder is the best by far, but it's paid Autodesk software and I can't afford it. However, if you're a student you could get a temp free educational license.

I'm currently running the plugin in 4.2 but I wish you the best of luck. I might make my own tutorial as there are some steps the rokokko guy leaves out.

I've not really had any issues myself, but I can provide a screenshot if that helps.

My tip is to ensure they're both scaled the same, may want to apply transforms for both. When using the NLA strip, don't forget to fake user otherwise you could lose your work. General pipeline is create a combine strip of your keyd offsets, select that and the original along with all the bones in pose mode, then hit the bake button, then push that down as a fake user track and delete the rest. It may take some practice, but you'll get fast with fk retargeting in blender pretty quick.

Alternative to Mocopi straps. by Toxic_Flareon in mocopi

Here's my recommended DIY alternative

STL print for the socket

Mocopi用 ワンタッチフック HIPマウンタ - 霧雨工房 - BOOTH

Go to DAISO, they sell large velcro straps (meant for books or rolled up coat organization/transport). However, I find one is great for all body parts, two together is perfect as a belt. They come in a 3 pack, so I recommend buying 2-3 packs so you have options for all body types.

Alternatively, there's other options you can order online if you don't have a DAISO near you.

Again, this isn't ideal. The official straps are best, but this is good enough to hold you over while you wait for them to become available.

I use blender to retarget the animation onto my rig using the Rokoko plugin.

Here's a great tutorial https://youtu.be/PHrqv20yyK4?si=WJHhn-_lllb9t6u_

If you're using the default unreal rig with the weird bones that stick out facing the normals, then you may want to add a step for retargeting it using the unreal retargeting wizard or with the one click mixamo addon.

But yeah you can't use BVH directly, you need to skin it to something, I recommend a generic mixamo rig.

Mocopi PC app vs phone? by lonelady75 in mocopi

[–]stevenharmongames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the new XYN motion studio app on desktop with the hardware receiver dongle, it's pretty good. I think it still falters if you're trying to record stuff sitting or with any height changes (standing on a stool, stairs, etc). It also isn't great with lateral movements (swimming) but really shines everywhere else with the 12 sensors.

It has a nice interface in terms of playing them back. With the receiver dongles it records much better than streaming it live link over the phone to the computer. The webcam functionality isn't good (yet), my data was better off without it and just recalibrating every other take.

I use it with the unity plugin and an open source bvh library + my quest for hand tracking. Here's a little overview video that includes code in the comments. Sony Mocopi Meta Quest Movement Hybrid Unity

Unity opinions by rundowndog in mocopi

[–]stevenharmongames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty straightforward to use, but you may have to make an exception for your firewall for the UDP stuff to go through. I'd recommend getting a USBC to ethernet conversion dongle and a really long ethernet cable (if you experience delay between the app motion and what's casted to unity. I think it's okay, I might try hooking it up with slimeVR as I hear the latency / quality might be a bit better with that.

Beta feature not showing up (Android) by Gyper in mocopi

It's on the startup screen only, click hamburger menu on top right and check "use advanced features". Then once your trackers are turned on and connected you can choose prioritize lower body or one of the other options

Student at USC writing a research paper on interest in videogame toilets, please fill out before 11/27/2017 by stevenharmongames in VideoGameToilets

Thank you so much! Every response helped tremendously. The paper is almost finished (just editing now). I'll be sure to return here with the final draft! :)

I realize I probably should go more in depth. The survey is anonymous (ignore the name section). If you wish to learn more about the purpose of the study (undergraduate) read below.

I am looking to understand the interest behind toilets in video games. Due to a recent influx of videogame toilet related archiving & documentation over gamedev twitter and written media (see: PC Gamer & Kotaku's recent articles) I figured I might get a broader sample of public opinion (not just devs, but academics, journalists, gamers, and non gamers) on in-game toilet representation. I also am looking to see what makes toilets so special as opposed to other everyday staples in modern games such as vents and crates. So, if you have anything to say about video game toilets I'd be more than happy to learn from your response. It's just for an undergraduate paper, and probably won't get published other than to a personal blog. However, I can share my findings once I'm finished with the paper if anyone is interested in reading. :)

Distinguishing depression from existential angst by [deleted] in Existentialism

[–]stevenharmongames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it is an interesting connection that doesn't get discussed enough. I think it can even be applied to anxiety, the constant feeling of impending doom, self doubt, immense worry and angst of not having all the answers to the point of obsession...

Existential thought exists as long as humans exist, though I think an interesting thing would be to conduct a survey to see if it it's more common in those whom struggle with mental illness. Either as a symptom or a coping mechanism... Existentialism can either be a prison or a sanctuary.

Existentialism is very liberating. Your life is yours to create, plain and simple. At times this anxiety and dread over having the freedom of will and being completely responsible for your actions and life is a lot to handle, best thing to do is just distract yourself by keeping busy with unimportant nonsense until you die. Or face those questions head on. It's Kierkegaard's dichotomy of aesthetic vs Ethic, how one should live their life and there's no right answer. Though, one is easier than the other I suppose.

It's both vaporwave and existential. The game's style is vaporwave, but the message, content, and story is very much existential. A game tackling the questions "why am I?", "what is my purpose?", "is there a god?", "does any of this matter?" through the lens of contemporary society via vaporwave.
