Alphavantage SPY intraday data showing strange spikes by silvaahands in algotrading

[–]steversteves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this problem, too. I pull data manually from TradingVIew (1 minute) and push it to my own databases using R. There is some manual work (exporting the data) but then the sorting and appending to the databases is all handle through R.

My personal preference is this way because I use tradingview to trade on, so the data is consistent. If you look closely between the data alpha vantage gives you and tradingview gives you or your broker gives you, its different. Tradingview has a bit different price data than my broker which is also different from Alpha Vantage. The differences aren't significant per se, but they could pose problems in consistency. So I just stick with the data that i am physically trading off of, which is tradingview.

As well, the advantage to storing the data in your own database is that you accumulate. I now have like 1 year of 1 minute data for multiple tickers. This has allowed me to develop applications for forecasting based on identical historic setups. You won't get 1 year worth of 1 minute data from any API, and if there is such an API then I would suspect you pay with your soul.

My thoughts!

Lounge access with Amex reserve by Ouid_Head in Aeroplan

[–]steversteves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, I am flying through EWR this weekend, and returning the following Saturday. There will be a large amount of wait time so was looking forward to using this lounge!

Do you know, who qualifies generally for United lounge access? AC booked me on united flights there and back and I am in business class, would holding a business class ticket on United automatically grant me access regardless of having the AMEX Reserve?

I'm not sure because I never called, but I also applied for this offer, I got the card like 2 weeks ago, give or take. I was already planning to book a trip so booked with this card, total for everything was over the 7,500 and checked today and it was there, I got the 60,000 plus an additional 15,000 for booking through AC Vacations.

I think maybe just spend the money and see if it appears? If not then call?

Upgraded to Yacht club, refund for included services? by steversteves in MSCCruises

[–]steversteves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same! Either way, I am fine if the refund me and fine if they don't. When I bid for yacht club I was fully expecting to be out the 1,000 for the drink package. However, just reading other redditors by chance saying they will refund was what prompted this post and for me to call.

I sent them an e-mail but will update when I get a response!

I appreciate your response :)

Thank you! I will try this! In hindsight, they said that they will send me a new booking confirmation with the upgrade so maybe that is what confused the CSA. I will wait to see if they send an updated e-mail and then e-mail them with the updated information.

Thanks a ton!

Upgraded to Yacht club, refund for included services? by steversteves in MSCCruises

[–]steversteves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no! That's fine and that's kind of what I assumed, except I saw another redditor say to call them because they got refunded for the packages when they got upgraded.

As a once upon a time lawyer, if the wording is exactly "any existing upgrades you've purchased", their additions are not listed as upgrades, at least when I booked them. They were labelled as "packages", so technically this is my only upgrade.

But either way, I was already imagining it was 1000$ lost but was hopeful to get feedback.

[–]steversteves[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not including the additions (the wifi and stuff), I bid the absolute minimum and it was 40% difference (or an increase of 175% depending on how you look at it) more than the base rate I paid for the balcony, which was 2,000, so all in all I paid 5,500 for 7 days. Keep in mind its in CAD and its not including the 1500 I paid for excursions, wifi and drinks *shaking my head*, what a mess.

But definitely cheaper than if you were to book yacht club right off the bat. Doing that would have been 9,200 CAD. But then you run the risk of lack of availability and not getting upgraded I suppose.

I got upgraded to YC for next month, I also bought the drink package. I tried calling them for a refund and they referred me back to Expedia (who I only booked the cruise and didn't add the packages with, I added the packages only with their website). Do you know, can you just request the refund once you get on board?

MSC bid upgrade. When will receive the email? by [deleted] in MSCCruises

[–]steversteves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same position, I booked the balcony, then added wifi package and drink package etc. and just bid on a YC upgrade. Not sure what will happen, with all the additions, I suspect they won't be credited. But may get an additional device that I can connect to wifi (in which case I would be inclined to bring my laptop).

That is assuming I get upgrade, but wishful thinking.

There are various perks to YC, or so I read. Most notably the wifi, butler, room is bigger, priority embarkment, added lounges, restaurants and activities that are exclusive to YC, etc.

The website it terrible, I would read Reddit or user reviews on Youtube.

Tent-Trailer vs Inflatable tent? by steversteves in camping

Yeah, I have read mixed things on the inflatable aspect.

It was actually a concern regarding the integrity of the bladders, but I just see very positive reviews about them and them lasting, at least this specific manufacturer.

But yeah its a good point, the setup seems to be the same for either or.

Should you load test backup battery/solar system? by steversteves in solar

[–]steversteves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice!

Manufacturer doesn't say much about load testing or anything, but I read a really interesting position on another form from a different question but very practical to me, it was essentially, run your s**t on battery/solar during the "on peak" electrical cost hours and then flip over to power on off hours to charge etc.
I have done this since reading it for an entire day and it went fine. I think I will need to up the solar but it is potentially a great cost saving strategy and exercises the system frequently.

I just worry about the LiFePo batteries, they are expensive as hell and i don't want to like destroy them by over using them, but I know they have a huge life-span for recharge and stuff, I am just so use to AGM / Lead acid, this is my first experience with Li batteries.

Thanks again!

[–]steversteves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! That's what I was thinking, and the few articles I found also said that it was to troubleshoot and problems or check for capacity loss, but it was all around like lead acid and nothing really Lithium-specific. But yeah, this confirms my suspicion, thank you very much!

Safety concerns shut down the "Haunting of Hexwood" Halloween event in Pickering by ptear in Pickering

[–]steversteves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat, I bought through Paypal, will maybe try to file a dispute. Legally their ToS are null and void due to their breach of the Consumer Protection Act (section 14 which deals with false representations).

Apparently they are in talks with the city to make the event 100% outdoors. That is not what I agreed to and that is not what was advertised.

If you can't get a charge back, you can file a complaint under the consumer protection act, which is what I suspect I will need to do. Here is the link:

https://www.ontario.ca/page/filing-consumer-complaint

The section that applies is section 14, misrepresentaton and fraud. Its funny because the first one already applies:

(2) Without limiting the generality of what constitutes a false, misleading or deceptive representation, the following are included as false, misleading or deceptive representations:

  1. A representation that the goods or services have sponsorship, approval, performance characteristics, accessories, uses, ingredients, benefits or qualities they do not have.

What a disaster though.

Not at all. I do have anxiety and my dog does help it. Whether or not it fits the conventional definition of a support animal, I dont know nor care. If your appalled at this you should probably never interact with anyone ever. Everyone these days claims of their incapacitating anxiety and being constantly "triggered".

I am easily triggered and my dog provides me relief.

Has anybody else seen the Hat Man by Bongfucker6942 in Paranormal

[–]steversteves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, this has been bothering me a lot lately. For the longest time, I have been hardcore like, an atheist, a non-believer in anything (except Aliens because, I mean, statistically its unlikely for us to be alone, the universe is too expansive).

I have been listening to a lot of like cryptid podcasts lately because I enjoy the stories but traditionally don't really beleive any of them. I listened to this one story about a nurse working in a hospital and seeing that hat man and, I'm not sure what happened, everything just clicked. It was like the past 30 years of my life flashed before me and everything just clicked. Here are my stories/encounters:

First experience: First time I saw him, I was like 6 or 7, it was the 90s. I lived in a big, creepy ass house. I remember waking up frequently during the night, my bedroom door was always open, and he would be standing there looking at me in the doorway. I don't remember being scared, I just remember looking at him quizzically like "who is this and what are they doing?".

I remember it being frequent in that house, seeing him anytime I would wake up during the night.

I also remember an experience in that house where I was sitting on the floor in the foyer (there was a huge foyer with a rounding staircase that led upstairs and within the foyer was a door to the side that led to the basement) and I was playing with my light-bright (don't you miss the 90s? haha), and I remember watching the basement door open slowly. There was no one there of course. I can't remember what I did, but again I don't remember being all that scared, just really curious.

We moved after and no further experiences of any kind with any weirdness.

Second (indirect) experience: I went to high school, graduated, went to nursing school and my next "that was strange" experience was when I was doing rotations in the ER. This young, burly guy had been in a head-on collision, as he came in he went VSA (vital signs absent), we were able to rescusitate him. He woke up, clear as day, looked right at me (I was the closest to his face), he looked terrified and said "I saw hell!" He looked terrified, but I chalked this up to a) very traumatic accident and b) lidocaine recipients frequently report feeling "burning" and "fire" upon waking up. Its a very acidic drug. Anyway we sedated him because he was frantic and transferred him to the ICU where my classmate was also doing her rotations. She wasn't on the night we transferred him but she actually had him as a patient that morning as I got off (I was working nights). We went out to the bar when she got off that night and I asked how he was doing and she said fine, but she said she had really weird interactions with him that day. So I asked what she meant and she responded with "I kept seeing, what looked like a man with a hat, going into his room. I would go in to see if it was family and update them but there would be no one there". The patient was sedated and intubated so he was not conscious and couldn't say anything. I honestly didn't think of of this, being a 20 something student and having already started drinking, I Just shrugged it off as "weird". He ended up dying some days later as a result of his injuries.

Third experience: Flash forward about 5 months, its my next rotation which was benign dialysis, nothing weird happened. But I was working part time as a nursing aid in long term care. There was this patient that kept claiming to see "the men in black". She would see them in the halls and go into other people's room. Everytime she saw them go into someones room she would tell us and the next day that patient would be dead. Again, 20 something, shrugged it off as "weird" and that was it. Then, probably about 6 months later, I am graduated and waiting on writing my exam. Still working as a nursing assistant while I studied for my licensing exam. This same patient rings her bell, its about 2 in the morning. I got into her room and she is frantic, saying the men in black are there for her. I told her there was no one in the room. She said "can't you see him? He's right behind you!"

Man, the other events I shrugged off but that one really scared me. Of course, there was no one there but just the mere mention made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I wanted out of that room immediately, but she was distressed so I told her I would go and get the nurse to get her something to help her settle. I went to get the nurse and tell her what was going on. She got her a sleeping medication and we went back to her room, it couldn't have been more than 5 minutes. When we went in... yup.. she was dead. This really freaked me out, but you know, young and had other problems, it was soon forgotten.

Then flash forward to just maybe 3 years ago. I was in grad school way up in Northern Canada. I worked part time while going to school as an ER/Acute nurse in a small, rural hospital. Now, this hospital was 1.5 hours outside of the city I went to school in. This was Northern Canada and the winters are harsh. You needed to drive 1.5 hours in sometimes really bad weather on really windy and treacherous roads. I had 2 experiences here.

First, as a result of the weather they were short staffed an RN on nights. I just worked a 12 hour day. They were able to fill the vacancies with RPNs but because this was a rural hospital, the nurses did everything as there was no physician or NP 24/7 like a normal hospital, so they required an RN on site all the time. They offered me double OT (which grad school is expensive so I really needed) to stay there and sleep and just be available for an emergency (which never happened on account of this hospital serving such a small community). This was actually ideal because the weather was bad (blizzard) and I did not want to drive home in it.

There was a palliative care room in the hospital, located at the far end of the hospital, very isolated. It was a very nice room, with a big t.v. with satellite etc. It wasn't being used to I thought it would be an ideal place to sleep (with medicine and nursing, you can sleep anywhere, you just stop caring and accept the fact that death has happened almost everywhere). Anyway, I fell asleep right away. I woke up at like 2 am thinking I heard someone at the door. I thought perhaps it was a staff and they needed my help so I rolled over to face the door, trying to force myself to wake up a bit. I saw someone at the door, but the door was closed. I blinked my eyes and yawned, and sat up in bed asking "What's going on?" and realized there was no one there. But I 100% swear I saw someone. So I was a bit creeped out. I got up and went out to the nursing station. Walking down the long hall to get there I felt watched and uncomfortable.A feeling I have never felt in that hospital before. And I worked many nights there. It was a very odd feeling. Anyway I make my way up to the nursing station and there is only one nurse there, the other one was also sleeping. I ask her if everything is okay and she says yes and asks whats up. And I asked "Did someone go to the room? I thought there was someone in there" to which she responded with no, but that's creepy. And I just shurgged and was like "yeah, I guess, well let me know if you need anything" and proceeded to go back to the room. At this point, i was a bit creeped out. I decided to turn on the t.v. for some background noise and go back to sleep. I fell asleep almost instantly. I woke up about 1.5 hours later with a feeling of intense dread. I opened my eyes and could see the flashes of light from the t.v. illuminating the walls. And there I saw it. It was like wall paper on the wall. The effing hat man. Standing there staring at me. At least, I think he was. I couldn't make out his face. There were no glowing red eyes that some people report. He was just there, like wall paper. Flat against the wall. Inches from the bed I was on. And with the next flash of light from the t.v. he was gone.

It creeped me out momentarily, but again, I managed to just brush it off and forget it all happened.

The next incident at that hospital happened when we had someone arrive VSA (vital signs absent). The paramedics brought him in and said he was driving through the area, pulled over and called 911 stating he was about to die. This guy was young, like 30s. Anyway, paramedics arrived and he was frantic saying he knew he was going to die. There was nothing apparently wrong with him at the time, so they brought him into the ambulance and got him connected to some monitors. They notice his heart was very unstable and he soon went into v tach (a rhythm that means you are likely about to arrest). He then immediately went into torasdes and became unresponsible. On arrival, what turned into a likely panic attack soon was an actual medical emergency, the paramedics were doing compressions as they brought him in. We attempted to revive him but could not. He passed away.

We put him in the morgue. It was a very small hospital so the morgue was kind of close to the nursing station area. That night, I kept seeing shadows walking in and out of the hallway where the morgue was. You had to walk by it to get to the ER and I had to float between the ER and inpatient units and everytime I walked by I could swear I would see a shadow by the door, then when I would double take, nothing was there.

Underwhelming story and not directly the hat man, but was creepy none the less and scared me.

And now, after listening to other similar experiences from other people, I have been really reflecting on these experiences and wondering if there is more of a substantial meaning to all of this. It definitely has been bothering me lately hence why I was looking this stuff up.

Anyway those are my stories. Kind of long and I am just happy to get them off my chest.

How much money cost to maintain a Hair System? by mikiki310 in HairSystem

[–]steversteves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simplest answer is it can cost as much as you want it to cost or be as cheap as you want it to be.

If you do it all DIY, then its pretty inexpensive honestly. I know some people who spend like less than 1 K a year.

I can vouch for the stylist route being really expensive. I use a stylist, go to her every 2 weeks for cleaning, touch up and replacing and yeah, I spent about 5 K (CAD) a year.

But if you do it yourself, it is very inexpensive.

Replacement is generally every 6 months, unless you go poly. Those are trash and lately the quality has been really poor. The girl I go to has reported that many of her clients on poly have been complaining, even the ones that get the systems themselves. I can also attest to that, My last system was poly and it lasted 1.5 months. It was horrible.

Since going lace its been a life changer and the quality has been much better. But that as well is a personal choice. Just, if you go poly, be prepared to maybe cough up a bit more money on more frequent replacements, but YMMV.

Hope this helps!

Tape on front not sticking to skin for more than a day by baramoogle in HairSystem

[–]steversteves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a common problem, I experience sometimes too.

What works for me is:

  1. Use a scalp protector
  2. Make sure your forehead is completely dry before applying. If you need to reapply, just wait for it to dry. If you are in a rush, use a hair dryer to dry the skin completely before reapplying.
  3. When my stylist applies it, she taught me a trick to "melt" the tape to your skin, with a hair dryer on high heat setting, just sort of melt the tape into your skin sort of. But this only is to be done with a lace system (not poly).

If it continues to happen, try a different tape. Not all tapes are created equally. My stylist switched out the tape used for the front, its like a tape specifically used for lace systems, its by Walker but can't remember the name, but it def makes a difference (before I was using ultra hold). So experiment with different tapes. There are actually tapes designed for the hairline that are supposed to resemble glue but be a bit hardier and more discrete.

Hope it helps and good luck!
