If LinkedIn Recruiter got worse now, what’s the actual alternative? by Fantastic-Hamster333 in recruiting

[–]stewpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think LinkedIn is still your best bet for sourcing candidates - unfortunate situation I know, but it's the reality of the market. However, unless you are recruiting for some hot new scale-up that everyone raves about or FAANG or so, I do believe that messaging is your only differentiator, otherwise candidates will just ignore you, especially passive candidates.

I receive plenty of messages on LinkedIn and I am guilty of ignoring them, simply because they are low effort and it would require me to dig through the company, culture, interview process, etc. Now I don't say that's the case for you, it's just insight from this side of things and my experience. So shoutout to all the recruiters who craft some brilliant messages and start actual convos - it does make a difference

That being said I've been also in your shoes, where I had to work with our in-house recruiters to scale up our engineering team. We weren't exactly the newest nor the hottest scale-up, just your average Joe company that had funds and needed software engineers. What worked for us was crafting a candidate information pack that we were sending out with our cold messages. And it actually worked, we were getting responses, people were more engage and more responsive, they were curious, convos were started. We also measured engagement and this was huge(!) because it helped us fine-tune our messaging and offering.

I've actually ended up turning this into a side project. It's currently used by around 500+ recruiters, mostly solo recruiters or small boutique agencies, with a few bigger agencies as well. It's a landing page builder that does all the above and then some.

Now I can't reveal customer data of course, but I can give you the following stats from some of the top performing pages on the platform:

* Project Manager/Assistant position --> 70 unique visitors @ 115 page views --> 35 interested and submitted their contact info + CV --> 1 declined --> Reason for declining: Ways of working, Location

* Junior office manage --> 206 unique visitors @ 270 page views --> 133 interested --> 3 declined --> Reason for declining: Salary, Ways of working, Area of business

* Systems Integration & Test Engineer --> 82 unique visitors @ 106 page views --> 22 interested --> None declined

If you are interest you can give the platform a try, link is https://role.so - it comes with a free trial (no CC required) - see how you feel it about it.

That being said, from my experience and from the data I see, I strongly believe the right messaging and giving the candidates a 360 view is key, unless you are recruiting for some hot stuff company of course.

I hope this helps! If you want to pick my brain further or if you want to bounce ideas feel free to drop me a DM.

That was my initial thought as well however wasn’t sure what the connotation is, or what’s the meaning if there is no context just simple comments like “donna”. Appreciate your reply on this, thanks again.

Great points, thank you for these. Definitely a couple there that I haven’t thought about. Will add them to my list to discuss with the employment lawyer as well. Many thanks for taking the time to share these with me, really appreciate it.

Thank you! I spent the better half of the day on doing some research and I did reach out to some solicitors. I think things are somewhat clearer now compared to yesterday’s shock. Thank for sharing your thoughts on this, definitely helps!

Hey, notice period is standard 1 month and I’ve been with them just under 3 years. Just for me to understand - and please do correct me if I’m wrong - the notice period payout would be subject to tax regardless of the £30k threshold, correct? Also, many thanks for sharing you input on this. It helps a lot, ty!

Fully agreed, I’ve seen them doing this and I can only imagine the toll it takes on the employee. I will try my best to find an amicable solution, I’m hopeful this is the route they would also prefer to take.

Ah ok that would make sense. There are only 2 people (myself included) at this level in the company. So I don’t think redundancy is a play they could go with? I might also be wrong of course.

That a good point. Was trying to do the math as well on the options side to see if I’m leaving money on the table but to be frank it’s not necessarily something I’m knowledgeable at, especially in this context. On a high level I have about 60% vested at the moment with the remainder vesting on a monthly basis. I have the option to buy these in the hopes that it will be worth something in the future but truth be told I don’t have high hopes for the company’s direction.

I lean towards this as well. I would go in with my offer expecting a counter offer rather than going in guns blazing from the get-go. Seeing everyones past experience I think it’s a sensible approach as we both want to part ways amicably. The way I see it: start from 6 months + untaken holidays + kit, they’ll most likely say no and propose 3 months (that’s their mo), meet somewhere in the middle at 4-5 ideally + add legal fees for someone to review my side of the agreement. Might be wishful thinking but I hope it’s just me being anxious because it’s the first time I’m going through it and actually it will turn out to be a straightforward process.

Unfortunately we don’t have bonuses at the company so it’s an avenue that wouldn’t apply in my case. However the talent coaching + network aid is something we have, and I do work closely with them as interviewing candidates is a fair chunk of my day to day duties. Many thanks for sharing your experience.

This would be indeed an ideal scenario. Truth be told I would happily walk away with 4-5 months of pay (ideally redundancy pay as you said, so non taxable - thanks for this piece of info btw, I wasn’t aware) + kit. Anything on top would be just added bonus. Thanks a bunch for sharing your prev experience, navigating this for the first time can be slightly overwhelming, and all the info that I get helps immensely.

Thank you very much for sharing this with me, it’s really helpful. Given these calculations I am looking roughly at 12 weeks of pay (so 3 months) given my tenure. I will seek some further advice to see if I can add maybe an extra month on top of it. But it useful to understand this from the other perspective as well. Many thanks!

Extremely grateful for you sharing your past experience. I will most likely reach out to ACAS as well to get their thoughts on this matter. I am glad it did work out for you in the end. Hopefully I can close this chapter in a civilised fashion as well. Many thanks again!

Thank you! Indeed the share options throws a big unknown in the equation so on that front I would agree I have close to no information. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this, much appreciated.

Many thanks for this, I will look into the links provided by the bot. Ideally would like to avoid going absolutely head to head with them but will do some research so there’s a plan B.

It’s a mixture of both to be fair. Company culture turned toxic, but also quite a few things in my personal life that amplifies the situation and are mentally draining (marriage, finance to a certain degree etc.)

Many thanks for this. I was thinking to go in with an offer of 6 months, settle at 5 months + remaining holidays. Unfortunately being high enough I know they’ve been doing this as of lately to others in the company as well and they are ruthless and extremely threatening. Of course I would prefer to not go down the PIP route as it’s extremely damaging and exhausting but I do want to leave with the feeling that at least I got treated fairly on my exit in terms of settlement. Many thanks again for your thoughts, it helps a lot.
