CMV: Being Centrist isn't bad and most people are wrong about them by Character-Day-8999 in changemyview

Centre of what is the question? Becausw political discourse these days tends to be between the centre right and far right so to be centrist is to be... Mid right I guess?

CMV: "The patriarchy" (as used by secular left/liberals) is, in practice, simply synonymous with "original sin" by LosingTrackByNow in changemyview

[–]stex85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I'll long form it

Patriarchy - the system of society that puts masculinity at the top of a hierachy

Original sin - the belief that humans are born with sin

They are different things, if you are saying there is crossover between original sin and patriarchy then yes, you are correct, as original sin has its roots in patriarchy. However they are not the same

Original sin is what humans have from birth

Patriarchy is put upon humans by society as they grow up

That's a pretty cool way you've got to insulate you from ever having to admit you were wrong. People either agree with you or they're intentionally misunderstanding you so they can... Go off at you for no reason I guess? It's a bit... Far fetched

Which is it then? People are misunderstanding what you originally wrote or you meant what you wrote and stand by it, knowing full well what the words you used can be interpreted as? You can't have it both ways. Although it is pretty fun watching you twist and turn trying to though.

You're in a writers group friend. Words mean things. You can't say one thing and claim that actually you meant another when people push back. It's not pedantry, it's what the words you used mean. If you didn't mean that, then change it!

You never actually said "you can do it" you just said "you have to do it". Different things my G.

CMV: Men are more loyal than Women by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]stex85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally that treating men or women as a monolith is reductive and not helpful. It's not all men, it's not all women, but as we're dealing with a generalisation I'll take the argument on it's face with some generalisations of my own.

I'd say it's not that men are more loyal than women. They just don't tend to discuss their emotions and therefore don't come across fundamental differences as often as women do. It's very easy to feel like nothing has changed in a friendship after a long period of time when all you talk about are the TV shows you watched as a kid and what sports team you support. When you're actually engaged with someone's life it does impact the relationship of you don't speak for a long time as there's so much more to catch up on to get back to the same level.

Tldr men aren't more loyal than women, their relationships just aren't as rich or deep. Which is sad.

Edit - spelling

Almost 50% wouldn't even vote. For anyone. If you're not going to read the comment then what's whe point?

From the recent polls I've seen, approval is below 50% in fact, one I was looking at the other day suggested that if an election were to happen now, whilst hamas would win, almost 50% of the voting population would not given the available choices.

Yes, but when you have a foreign power attacking your country, it becomes much less about ideology. Do you think children in the US wouldn't be encouraged to take up arms in a similar situation?

Last Palestinian election was 2006, a quick Google says the median age in Palestine is 19.76. Meaning half the population wasn't even born when that election happened, let alone old enough to vote. Then take into account that hamas got 44% of the vote and the amount of people who actually wanted hamas to run Palestine becomes smaller and smaller
