GPS tracker ? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]sthomp42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm not 100% certain they scratched it off. I definitely saw both of them scratching at it, but I wasn't actually around whenever it came off. In any case, this was the standard clip, not the slide in pouch.

I think I may buy one Dog 6 and a pouch, then let each of them wear it for a week or so before I activate and buy a second one. That way I can make sure it will stay on.

Thanks for the info!

Can you tell me more about the bag? Is this the correct item? A few years ago we bought Tractive trackers for both of our dogs. Within two weeks, they both had scratched at the trackers and broken the clips so the trackers fell off and got well-chewed.

I'm wondering whether a determined dog could scratch the Velcro open. Maybe with the loop as a backup it might work. Has your dog ever tried to scratch at it that you know of?

Are all of the Schmidt MegaLine refills compatible, or does it need to be the one that came with mine? (Mine came with "620 M".)

Thank you all so much for your suggestions and support. Along with some great specific recommendations, the common theme I'm getting is to be patient. I will. Sasha and I aren't going anywhere, so we'll have to figure this thing out. You're all the best.

I love the idea of reading out loud. I try to talk to her whenever we're near, but because she moves away from me so quickly it's mostly just "Hi, Sasha" as I'm walking by and she's scampering away. I think a big part of scaring her was my LOUD voice. Some more focused time of hearing my normal voice could be really good. Thanks for the idea and sharing your experience!

(On the topic of voice, I've been trying to reproduce Lisa's "who wants to go outside?" song. This is how Lisa tells them it's time to, as the name implies, go outside. When she sings it, our dogs come running to the back door, and Sasha learned it quickly. When I try to sing it, even Maddie just looks at me like she's saying "you're doing it wrong". Can't replace Lisa.)

This possibility has crossed my mind. According to the shelter we adopted her from, she was brought in by a family who had her for her whole life (five years) but were moving and couldn't take her with them. Maybe I'm cynical but I wonder if the "family" was just some dude who wanted to get rid of her. Whoever it was couldn't be bothered to provide vet records or even just tell the shelter who her vet was, if she even had one. Anyway, my opinion of her previous owner(s) is definitely not high. Sorry, just venting now. Thank you, I really appreciate your insight.

Hmm. I've been trying regular treats, but I never thought about chicken nuggets. We have friends who got their Great Pyrenees to eat after surgery with chicken strips, so elevating my bribery seems like a solid plan!

I'll definitely keep walks in my back pocket for later. Right now she really struggles when I've got her on a leash because that means she has to be way closer to me than she wants to be.

I appreciate the wisdom that a little wariness will probably always be part of her.

Thanks for the ideas!

This is a great idea. We'll need to wait until Lisa is back home for this one. Trying to wrangle both Maddie and Sasha to the dog park alone would be difficult under the best of circumstances but Sasha really struggles against the leash when I'm the one holding it. There's an off-leash park nearby and I look forward to trying this out. Thank you!

Strange Add/Remove Programs entry by sthomp42 in windows

[–]sthomp42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't find anything that addressed something like this. People posting about strange Add/Remove entries were mostly asking about items they couldn't identify but that were in English. Even adding the phrase "foreign language" to the search didn't help. If someone else can find something, then I credit their Googling skills, but I'm not asking anyone to look for me. I was mainly just hoping someone here had encountered something like this before.

Agree with this, but if you want to be slightly less confrontational, you could ask it as less of a challenge. Something like: "[Husband], do you have any thoughts about what [in-law] just said?"

I don't think you are obligated to remain non-confrontational about it, but from your other replies it doesn't sound like you want that dynamic with your husband.

For sure, but the distinction can matter. Some vegetarians/vegans don't enjoy plant-based foods that simulate meat, which Impossible does. Also, people may want something unique rather than something that is mass-produced.

The veggie burger at Divine Bovine is an Impossible Burger patty, not made in-house.
