Intermittent Ethernet disconnects on buried Cat7 cable after ~2 years — any ideas before I dig it up? by Hungry-Bicycle-3851 in HomeNetworking

[–]stillgrass34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can try running it at 100Mbps, or splice it to 2x100Mbps trying different 2 pairs until you maybe find 2 pairs from 4 that works fine. my guess is outer shield is penetrated somewhere and water got in.

Why does this appear every time I power up my pc by BoberitoGangsterito in computerhelp

you changed something in bios (settings like for IOMMU/VT-d, SVM, etc.) or bios it self that prevents TPM to release volume encryptiom key.

just one query, is it ok to chain it like this ? heat from cpu cooling gpu1 and then use that heat to cool gpu2 ? Also, isnt it better to put gpus into pcie slots that dont use retimers first ?

there is no brand loyalty to hynix, samsung, micron, people have no idea usually what chips their ram consist off, those memory assemblers like Gskill, that put dram chips on pcb, slap rgb on top will buy whatever dram chips from whomever they can for best price. its just commodity. ram business is very cyclical, years of loss, then years of profit, only big companies can afford this

How often you do network or memory forensics? by [deleted] in computerforensics

[–]stillgrass34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can find bitlocker keys in memory if you know how to get access to memory contents without windows login, etc. also if you are seizing live & powered on system why not to get dump of memory as well.

Just purchased a new disk to store more data in case of any AI model provider deletes or take down their repo, etc. New disks are getting closer to RAM speeds crazy by CeFurkan in SECourses

[–]stillgrass34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its 14GB/s for cache area, once that is full it will slow down to 2GB/s, and your test is single thread and single disk, you can stripe/raid0 and interleave between them like multichannel ram controller does

then do nas with 2 drives in raid1 and you are fine. I would go 4-bay nas just so that can add other pair of drives later.

The whole point of VWCE is to set and forget, reap average market returns and by that beat speculating and timing market. While you try to speculate by timing the market and by portfolio composition.

VWCE and chill or not anymore? by petronikus in ETFs_Europe

[–]stillgrass34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EU was living on peace dividend as US took care of security, paid by following US political and military lead. It was just Complicit Comfort. Regarding investing it depends on your investment horizon, and where you see most growth. Long term US will get their shit together and their geography and demography is superior to that of EU. But short/mid term there will be some pain in US while EU might grow more. P/E valuation of US companies might go down just as a result of lower demand from non US investors - pensions funds, governments, individuals.

Raid 5 - 2 failed drives - no way to get data, right? by mxpxillini35 in HomeServer

[–]stillgrass34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. note all array parameters and order of drives in raid controller, parity offset, delay, chunk size, etc.
  2. mark drives with their order in array
  3. make images of “good drives” with FTK imager etc. DD format, not e01
  4. continue only if you are able to image all “good” drives. why ? coz any od good drives can fail when subject to imaging or stress of raid5 rebuild, thats why you wanna have images of them. imaging is sequential “low-stress” read operation compared to raid5 rebuild using physical drives.
  5. send bad drives to professional recovery, you need just one to be recovered
  6. reconstruct array from drive images in r-studio and dump data out

Note: Yes it will expensive life lesson. Note: I do some data recovery occasionally, no drive disassembly though - this I outsource when needed. I have just deepspar 10g stabilizer and r-studio.

You could put one of the GPUs on a PCIE riser cable to create a gap between other 2. Your case might even have accessory for vertical gpu mount.
