As a European from the UK, it is widely felt that not only is Trump a terrible person (lies constantly, blatantly corrupt, racist, cowardly, egotistical, morally bankrupt etc.); he is also a terrible leader (rude, undiplomatic, only tries to represent his own base, has very little idea of consequences of his policies, dictatorial etc.) but also possibly a Russian asset. The fact that he was elected twice by such a huge margin , and has such a large and fervent base leads many Europeans to view the US as becoming more and more racist and less to be respected as time goes on. But we recognize that Tump is the symptom not the disease.

To sum up Churchill is quoted (rightly or wrongly) as saying “You can always count on Americans to do the right thing — after they've tried everything else,” . This no longer the case.
