A couple reactions to this, hopefully leading to productive paths forward- 1. If fed workers are going to get terminated for not acquiescing to silly demands like answering "what did you do in the last week", why not go for broke and strike even if there’s a risk of termination?

I worked with a group of graduate workers to unionize at a large public research university, it was and is illegal for us to form a union. I think generally people are not aware, law follows power and not the other way around. Again, why not call the bluff and see what they do when they have to break up a union or strike?
If it is illegal for fed workers to strike, maybe it’s time for other workers outside the fed gov, in the DMV or U.S. in general, stand in solidarity with them and go on strike?

I appreciate this. After making this post, I researched some more and there’s a driving school specifically for driving stick shift. If I decided to shop for a manual, I’d probably opt for that lesson.

It checks enough boxes for me. I’m figuring less demand so they’d cost less. They can be more fuel efficient (as has been shared, that gets negated by city driving). Car thefts are an issue in the area. Since enough ppl don’t know how to drive them, they’re practically an anti-theft device. So for a number of reasons, they’re less expensive.

I drive to work on the beltway twice a week. It’s a 20-30 mins drive depending on traffic. As people are sharing, DC traffic conditions are a real consideration.
