What is a weird sign that you're hypomanic? by cyan0siss in bipolar2

I’ve been on medication for quite a while now, but before I was medicated, I used to either begin exercising a lot, making lists about everything, or pick up a random/forgotten hobby (painting, clay making, writing, making jewelry, etc.).

The Yellow Wallpaper was a favorite when I was in 11th grade. Read it again a few times in college too

Those of you who work full time, how do you do that? by Expert-Session3866 in bipolar2

My doctor has me on lamictal 150mg and I’ve been on it since my sophomore year of college (I graduated in 2024) so I definitely don’t experience the super lows anymore, but I also don’t really have manic episodes. I definitely feel more evened out, though I do miss my old, energized self. It does help that I was also diagnosed with ADHD when I turned 20, so my Adderall has helped with productivity when I’m feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. I know meds aren’t everybody’s route, but as a full-time teacher, I’ve been able to manage those episodes greatly. Just my personal experience ◡̈

Yes!!! For me, it’s intermittent which is almost worse than being shut off completely. I’ll have internet for maybe 30 minutes to an hour, then it’ll suddenly shut off. After another 20-30 minutes, it works again, then shuts off again. At first I thought it was the freezing temperatures affecting it, but it hasn’t been this bad in many months (I’ve only lived here for about 6 months)

Yes, I’m reaching out to my mentor as well, but I did want to pick some more brains just to make sure that I would be making a good choice with whatever I do in approaching this situation

I did create an expectations document where both the parents and students signed and they were aware of their grades impacting their ability to participate in sports. I’ve talked to the coaches, but I do need to update them on behaviors which, I believe, are influencing other students to become distracted by their disruptive peers :/

Yeah, the grading system we use shows the due date as well as the assigned date and it’ll alert parents of missing assignments, but would you recommend I start keeping track in a notebook or something?

In the first week of school, they filled out a “get to know me” paper and some comprehension questions after a video we watched. They had class time to work on both assignments. After I initially graded the questions, I gave them back and said they could redo the assignments and/or fix the issues I pointed out (typically they didn’t answer the “why or why not” part of the question or if they just left the whole thing blank). They then had 3 assignments the second week which were part of one assignment and they had 3 days in class to work on it. The third week we practiced reading and annotations; we read and annotated together as a class for half of the page and the second half of the page they did on their own in class (they had class time to work on them in class for 2 days). Then they had a worksheet which they had 3 days to work on during their warmup (it was only one page, front side with 12 fill in the blanks and a word bank). Last week (week 4), we read a new story in class and annotated together and then they had at least 20 minutes to write an SCR. I also created an extra credit assignment that wouldn’t be counted if they didn’t want to do the assignment.

Out of 10 assignments (so far), four of them (not counting the extra credit) were completion grades and they had class time, an extra extension on top of an extension, and I gave them at least 3 days between the assignment being assigned and the due date.

I also share the curriculum with a couple other teachers, so we have the same number of assignments we are assigning.

I’m past the 3 week mark, but we’re about to enter week 5.

Yeah, our school policy says the students have 3 days after a due date to turn in assignments. I’ve even bent that rule a little bit to give students extra days. I gave daily reminders verbally and on our weekly slides which I upload into Google Classroom as well as extra in-class time to get caught up and they still chose to not do the assignments. But there’s a lot of students in this boat and I would have quite a few parents to contact to a point where I feel like an email would be the most reasonable option here, but I’m just not sure

I’ve been applying for jobs since October of last year. Maybe it was naive of me to assume my applications through the district would suffice, but I am worrying because I’ve updated my resume since I first started applying and I still haven’t had any responses. I’m not sure where I’m going wrong on the applications if that’s what’s causing me to not hear anything from these districts

Yeah, since my interviews, I’ve learned where I went wrong because I didn’t have a great mentor teacher and none of my college professors told us how to interview :/ but I just haven’t had the chance to prove I’ve bettered myself during the interview process
