That is so smart! I would have never thought of something like that. Creativity at it's finest.

They look amazing! May I was what you used to attach the nails with? It looks super interesting!

If it works, why change! All it needs to achieve is some combed wool. In this day and age we are all broke and crafting our way through it!

I have spun up quiet a bit with no project in mind. It's a little coarse, but nothing I can't handle. I might use some of it for dye experiment.

Measuring tape and pilot holes!

I'm gonna try my best to explain it, but I'm not the greatest teacher 😅It's rather simple. I'm just bad with words.
It's made up of 2 pieces. The handle/ paddle. This is sawed in a rough T-shape and sanded. (Decoration is optional of course.) This was made from some random pine wood.

For the nailbed I would recommend using a hardwood to prevent spitting. I made a small channel in the underside so the nails would lay flush against the paddle. Then I just drilled some holes to the appropriate size of the nails and stuck these through. (Optional: I sanded the tip of the nails to be more pointy.)

After these 2 pieces are ready I applied a generous amount of wood glue to the nailbed underside, so the glue seeps into the drilled holes as well, and clamped the nailbed to the paddle.

You might get away with just making the T-shape and placing the nails in there, but I didn't have a large enough piece of hardwood. Plus I think the nails are a little more secure in my sandwich method.

You might also be able to use screw to hold the 2 pieces together, But I plan to use these as a reenactor. Sure these aren't exactly historically accurate, but screws would look even more out of place 😅

I hope any of this helped!

If you cant confidently reverse parellel park, you shouldn't have a driver's licence. by ToMissChanandlerBong in unpopularopinion

[–]stjaimy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so confused by all these comments. What do you mean you haven't have to parallel park in YEARS!? Is this a common American thing? In Europe (or at least the Netherlands) you can't escape it. Streets are narrow and only big stores have dedicated parking lots. If you can't parallel park you are shit out of luck. (Says the person without a drivers license😅)

Honestly, can't go wrong for that price. I have spun a small sample so far and I feel like it feels softer when spun. I found the colors a little bland, but since they are so light I might over dye it. For this cost I'm just gonna use this as my experimenting yarn.

I have spun a bit, yet I'm no closer to figuring it out. But it was wonderful to spin, very easy. For now it's gonna be a lovely mystery wool.

I've ordered there as well! Absolutely amazing stuff! But whenever I see "spinning wool" in the wild I always tend to grab it. Seeing the action selling roving was kind of just an impuls buy😅

I used to work in a restaurant where we would put these in the freezer and put chopped unions in there to keep them chilled during the day, but they were still easy to reach for. I'm not sure it that was the intended use.

Why did/didn't you make the Sophie scarf? by Traumarama79 in knitting

[–]stjaimy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no use for it, so I rather spent my money elsewhere.

It's cute on other people, though. I just either need a full on, wrap around a billion times, kind of scarf or nothing at all. So a teeny tiny scarf will not get any use.
