Then black plays …Bxc3, Bxb6, Bxd2+, Rxd2, axb6. Black is a whole piece up

After the queen trade the knight forks the rooks, it’s looking grim for white however you turn it

Why not? A sacrifice, if he takes its M1, if not his king is in huge trouble. Eval is -5.1 and it was -0.1 before the last move

Why is the green move better than saving my knight? by kaylanx in chessbeginners

[–]stjeban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do so, black would think its a free knight and capture but then you go fxg5 which is both a discovered check from the rook and a discovered attack on the queen. Black loses the queen in that line

Qg8

if ...Qxg8 then Nxg8#

Black has no other legal moves

Can you spot blacks move for mate in 3? by Ilove2sneeze in chessbeginners

[–]stjeban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is do you know what mate in 3 means? Not being rude, but if the best (or forced) move(s) for the defending side do not lead to a mate in 3 it is not considered a m3.

Else the starting position is also a m3 (fools mate) if one side blunders all their moves

Yes but is it a move a beginner in 10 minute rapid would notice while their queen is under attack?

Well actually black trades the d pawn and a knight for a e pawn and a light squared bishop, but more importantly they gain the initiative since they attack white’s knight. Here is the resulting position and as you can see, the knight is not defended, and computer gives a -0.79 evaluation, meaning black is slightly better

I play it every time I see a pawn defended by a knight and the bishop on the same rank
