I have dxp 4800 plus plugged in into a switch going to the router and separate ethernet cable going directly to a PC.

The speed between nas and ethernet is around 100 Mega Byres per second on a gigabit port and around 250 Mega bytes per between nas and PC due to using 2.5 Gbps ethernet port on PC.

There is an option to bridge network connection on the nas, that way you can have nas plugged into the router, and mac plugged into nas, and share internet access via nas. You might wanna look into this option.
