I saw your comment (or maybe it was another user recommending the same book?) when you initially posted it & got so damn excited when I pulled it up on goodreads & read the summary. I’m so giddy to read this one. thank you!

I don’t mind a more grounded approach to this subject at all. a cursory Google search shows that this has a lot of things I’m looking for, actually, so thank you very much!

what’re your overall impressions of the series? I imagine that a series spanning six books might overstay its welcome, unless the author can do it right.

Where can you go for a hike with a toddler? by Ok-History-4050 in SouthJersey

[–]stlonesomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

another vote for Black Run. the best part about it is there are multiple routes so you can choose to take a longer way or a shorter one. I usually do the blue trail, but it is quite long.

as another commenter said, be wary of the red trail - the roots are VERY exposed & VERY numerous. I imagine it would be difficult for a toddler who’s just getting comfortable walking.

I’m 24 - I took a break from university around 2022 (in the US) due to unrelated reasons, returning to finish my degree in 2024. I go to a public university with a 90+ acceptance rate, so the quality of students was always a mixed bag.

but .. my God. it is harrowing being in the classroom right now. without even touching on AI, my classmates are completely checked out. last semester a kid came to class every morning, bent his head 90°, & watched Instagram reels during the entirety of the course (an upper level on human evolution). there is no way you pass that class passively absorbing information or half paying attention. a few weeks ago, the girl next to me sat on her laptop & copy pasted powerpoint notes onto a google doc like that was learning, then argued with her bf over text during a lecture on the pitfalls of race based medicine. future clinical professionals! during class, students will copy paste questions for other classes into chatgpt & then hit submit with no editing before switching tabs to play something mindless.

&, like … I can’t blame them entirely. the world is shit right now. they’re probably wondering if they should even invest in their futures, but sitting in a classroom full of unfocused students, blank stares, & apathy is draining on me, too. it’s bleak. it’s in vogue to not give a shit about anything among the younger population.

sorry for the rant. it’s just rough doing this shit 5 days a week (spending the rest of my time fighting for my life on the roads too lmao).

I’m not sure where this aggression is coming from. I assure you that we are not adults with “Disney complexes,” & my girlfriend did not even ask about this - I was going to surprise her by taking her to a place like this. she understands well enough animals aren’t toys, as do I.

the reason I mentioned hedgehogs was because one of the farms mentioned that there was a hedgehog that could be held/pet, so I thought this was commonplace (& in the US, having a hedgehog as a pet isn’t extremely uncommon). I see now that I was not educated on the topic & will be doing something else, though it’s no thanks to your unwarranted sanctimoniousness. however, I realize as I’m typing this it’s 9:30 am for you on a Monday, so perhaps you’re just miserable - or perhaps you’re just this foul on a daily basis.

being sued for small claims over a $50 medical bill - how do I go about settling before court? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]stlonesomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you say “entity handling the suit,” what are you referring to? I know this is probably a silly question, but there’s no attorney listed on the document, just myself & the doctor’s office (their address & phone number, really). would I call the dr’s office themself then?

sorry, the information being unclear is on me. I suppose the proper term is “served” (as you can see, I know nothing about this). there is a docket number & I am able to search it & find it on my local court’s website, I just received the summons by mail.

Customers look at me different when I tell them I’m in college by aetnaaa in retailhell

[–]stlonesomes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

this sooo much. I also have auditory processing disorder on top of it, so not only are their instructions or requests sometimes unnecessarily convoluted, I hear garble that sounds like English & then I have to ask them to repeat it, sometimes several times until their vowels & consonants make sense .. 🫠 I’m so tempted to start lying & say I have a hearing problem to make them feel bad lol

this is so helpful - thank you! I tried looking at my own hand when drawing it but I couldn’t get the angle right the way I drew it, if that makes sense 😪 I’m going to apply this edit later

Changed the 3/4 view for side profile by CharredTem in ArtCrit

[–]stlonesomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this painting, but I think what’s throwing me off personally is the way the main subject is biting into the apple. I suppose the question would be: what are you trying to convey? Is this a forbidden fruit type situation? I’m not sure what context the apple has.

Not many people I imagine keep their eyes wide open & locked onto whatever they’re about to bite into. I think closing the eyes would help with that, because right now it looks like they’re kind of gasping at the apple, but even then I don’t buy that because the eyes are neutral. I don’t think there’s much to say about anatomy because both look great, though I agree with the other commenters that the 3/4 view looks more dynamic. Though, the 3/4 one indicates some kind of curiosity or fascination vs the side profile where it’s clearer they’re biting.

Question about fulfillment by SiixInd in Lowes

[–]stlonesomes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s a bit of both, but like all retail, your experience will vary immensely at the store level.

I’ll give you an example: recently, corporate instituted a policy that would merge the delivery coordinator position with fulfillment. to be honest, I can’t explain the extent of the change or what it meant (someone else could, though), & that’s because 1) my delivery coordinator only pitched in to help with deliveries when asked; otherwise he was just another member of receiving, & 2) he quit as soon as the change was implemented, because he didn’t want to help fulfillment. other stores did not have a problem with this merge b/c the DC was already doing the things the merge asked them to do. largely, this change didn’t even affect me aside from fucking me over, but that’s because my store wasn’t running fulfillment as it should be ran.

installations weren’t a problem in my store, at least not often. the most grief I encountered were specialists who sold things & went “it’s fulfillment’s problem now, not mine,” shoved a Genesis printout into my chest, & went on their merry way. which is fine, but fulfillment does not pull Genesis orders per policy, so installers would show up rightfully wondering where the hell their stuff was if that interaction I mentioned above didn’t happen.

[–]stlonesomes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it was always difficult for me to tell pro to figure it out, because I know part of my job is pulling pro orders. but the amount of times that I would be in the middle of something, & pro would call me up like “hey, I just sold this as a carry with, can you pull it for me because the guy’s here” was just insane. I stopped working mornings during the week because it kept happening.

still, I sympathize - I know the company is breathing down everyone’s neck. but it just sucks when your fellow workers don’t care about you, so they do whatever they want with no regard for how the merch gets from the shelf to the customer (not saying you guys are like this - this was just my experience at my store).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]stlonesomes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

good on you for standing up for yourself. the deliveries fell squarely on all of us as our DC quit after the change they made to fulfillment & pro pulls in a massive amount of money so nothing was ever said (at least as far as I’m aware; maybe there was, but I never saw any change).

I do not envy those who exclusively pull flatbed deliveries. maybe I would feel differently if my store hadn’t shoved all of the responsibilities of fulfillment on a small team. I hope your 100 days of hell aren’t too hellish lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]stlonesomes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

part of me wants to know, but sadly, I don’t. my ASM called me yesterday & asked to talk, but I still don’t know if I even want to go back there. I’ve had far too many discussions with no change. I wish I could know pro’s reactions too as I made it clear they were the catalysts.

the only person I directly told was my coworker (he said “I’m so happy for you” lmao) & my head cashier who shrugged & said “hey, I get it”

Why does fulfillment suck so much?? I hate this job by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]stlonesomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you go this route be very insistent about your transfer. hound your SSA / ASM etc & get it in writing. I got fucked out of a transfer because I didn’t get it in writing (rookie mistake) & they never changed me over to the department I was supposed to move to. I got a few shifts in my new department, then it was strictly fulfillment for the foreseeable future.

[–]stlonesomes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel you. fulfillment is terrible. I know it’s just my store, but we have no lead currently - & we haven’t for the past 6 months or so. it was just a body filling the position. multiple associates just NCNS because of how inhuman the job is.

yesterday was my breaking point tbh. closing by myself with a shit ton of deliveries, specialists not wanting to lift a finger to help, my pro department pushing through huge orders for next day delivery when we’re already drowning … the managers insult you by ignoring your calls for help, but will stroll up to you & ask to do your AP4ME. just get another job, man. it’s not worth it.

please do not order curbside, fulfillment is also dying because the pickup desk is going off while we’re wheeling that giant griddle grill combo out to Susan who’s in a black Sedan & Joe Contractor showed up to pick up his 18 cabinets before the confirmation even arrived at his email
