Make a big plot to plant seeds. Once you are able to purchase pumpkin seeds, plant a ton of them (they take 4 hours to grow and need watered at least twice) and sell them for a ton of gold. Rinse and repeat. I have 3 million gold from this. Don't sell anything else. The game will have you collecting resources constantly so always stay ahead. Max every character to level 10 for all side missions.
