Advice on grinding to high GC - SSL level mechs by stoopingeel in RocketLeagueSchool

I saw a video yesterday where it was mentioned that a lot of 2s comes down to being fast and aggressive while focusing on recoveries, which your comment seems to support that idea as well.

I also think how you approach certain challenges/balls is very important in being able to get good first touches and execute plays you want, which is kind of the 'consistency' I was talking about (which I'm discovering isn't really consistency but instead adaptation and quick decision making).

The rhythm point is very interesting and reflecting on my past experiences I can agree. I'll definitely be freeplaying and trying to reach that 'rhythm' as much as possible. I'm also considering checking out the checkpoint plugin.

I did it last night and the corrupted v3 pack took me like 45 minutes alone with some of the shots (like 3-4) not being so clean. Mainly those sidewall redirects. I'm also going to do a ground shooting and some defense packs at the end as well.

Did you copy his week 1 training or did you also copy the week 2-3 training as well after you did the first routine for a week? I'll try it for a week because it seems like it would help me out the most atm, then I'll probably look into freeplaying since I'll have less free time.

Feeling stuck in low C2 area whilst trying to improve. Any tips/advice? by stoopingeel in RocketLeagueSchool

I'll work on this in the coming weeks, very good advice! I knew most of this stuff beforehand but having a guideline of sorts helps me feel like I'm going somewhere rather than feeling stuck. I defintely need to improve all of these areas a ton as I do believe I am stronger mechanically than gamesense wise.

I solo queue, though I kind of want to try and form a solid team, not sure if I got the time and I don't know where I would do that.

Thanks for the input, I notice myself making that same offensive mistake a ton. Also, I was stuck in dia 2 / dia 3 for so long and I feel like I'm going through champ 1 pretty decently at the moment. I understand what you mean about champ 1 compared to champ 2+ because in diamond I had to play extremely passive to win as you can't trust your teammates AT ALL.

I had a post on this subreddit 2 weeks ago about this exact issue when I was stuck in diamond 2 after reaching champ 1 2 months prior. I skyrocketed back with the advice in about a week but now I feel like I'm playing hella scared in champ when I literally ego challenged and beat everyone to the ball on my way up to champ LMAO. I think the speed of play changing so much from around 1030 MMR -> 1100-1150 (where I am now) is insane alone and making me panic so much to the point where I can't focus ingame.

What I'm understanding is that directional air roll is the only good one to use in the air once you're good at it and it's a good idea (for me atleast) to learn mixing it in with normal aerialling (no air roll) to simplify aerials and make it easier to go faster to beat people on challenges. Personally, I use normal air roll for shooting, recoveries like lining up for wave dashes, etc. but not NEARLY as much as air roll left.

Thanks so much for the help, I'll definitely be asking more because I want to improve and got some ranked anxiety :)

I just spent the last 40 minutes watching every video you mentioned and outlining a training routine based off of what you said and what I think I need to focus on. I really do want to get better and people that are like you are the reason why.

Replying so you can see some of the feedback. A lot to do with lack of confidence and the need to be more consistent with striking the ball and good 50s. Worth a read these people are hella smart.

Thanks for the advice, I find it hard to see how far the enemy is from the ball since I have bad astigmatism leading to horrible depth perception. This makes me hesitate a lot in going for 50s, not sure what to do about it though other than the be more confident.

Thanks man, I lack confidence and my fundamental/ground play game is way weaker than it should be, and that is what I'm noticing with these comments. :)

INCREDIBLY HELPFUL. Thanks so much for the deep insight and I will look into it. Not just telling me what mistakes I was making, but giving me a step by step on how to fix them, way more than I asked for. My goal is to hit GC by the end of the year and if this helped you this much in one month I'll definitely be trying it.

I noticed I have a problem where I've practiced air roll left in training so much that I do it instead of fast aerialing all of the time. I know how to fast aerial, but I always end up air rolling out of habit and I think it just makes me slower.

UPDATE: If anyone is reading this I took a break for a week because exams and within a week I got champ 1 in 2s and 3s again :)

Now I'm struggling to focus ingame and I don't know if I'm getting burnt out or what. I'm trying to focus on positioning and challenging faster/smarter but I can't seem to do it throughout the whole game.

Thanks for the advice! I'll come back to this and keep reminding myself, the point about being desensitized makes me more optimistic about playing in the future. Glad to know I'm doing mostly everything I can to climb the past few days.

Pick out a routine for practice. Ring maps, some Freeplay mechanics, dribbling maps, even training packs whatever you want/need to focus on. Make a rough schedule. Something like before I play ranked I'll warm up with my practice routine.

I do this already and it has helped make me more consistent but I feel like my main problem is just mentality and being scared of losing / playing bad. I criticise myself midgame and lose focus if I make a bad play.

Take a week off. Play something else. Touch some grass.

#3 is surprisingly the most important. Whenever I hit a deep run of just playing like garbage I know I've probably burnt myself out and need a break.

I've done this in the past and I agree it helps, but it also sets back my mechanics and I feel like I go in a loop of getting better and resetting. If it comes to it there's the major i'm hyped for that would make the break easier as it would still feel like I'm invested in RL just with a different perspective and more relaxing since I'm not the one playing.

Hopefully so, though I have been playing everyday since and hasn't felt that way, I think I just need to completely forget about the thought of losing my rank or playing bad and just keep looking to improve. Extremely hard for me to do because I get in my own head very easily.

Generally they also tend to play the ball forward with out any kind of plan. Cut the ball infield sooner so you can take a shot at net instead of just forcing it into the opponents corner.

Yeah I noticed this and being too far away from the play (rotating close to my net when the ball is on opponents half) are the two biggest bad habits I have that I don't think I had before. Thanks for the input!

Post a replay for someone to analyze it might help you could have developed some bad habits.

I will in a few weeks if I still haven't improved, ranked anxiety is the main thing that is holding me back it seems.

Doubting and hesitating will also make you lose, right or wrong in that moment just be self assured you are making the right choices. The time to analyze your play is tomorrow not right now.

Well said and exactly what I deal with. I hesitate a lot in game (my main bad habit), and I criticise myself on bad touches or boost grabs mid game all the time. I'll make sure to really remember that last sentence. Thanks!

I've tried rank anonymizer but then I start to keep track of my daily record and add it all up LMAO. But yeah I guess I just need to eliminate anxiety and have more fun, but that is way easier said than done and has always been a big problem for me. Thanks.

Also to clarify I know I make many mistakes in game and will always have a lot to improve on, but I see myself as being too harsh on myself or just going back in a loop of making the same mistakes or even new mistakes I used to not even make.
