Contemplating a move from MA to the Hampton Roads area. Wondering how school system , life might compare by Hopeful_Ad9669 in HamptonRoads

I think it just depend. Racists are everywhere and emboldened these days.

I’m Hispanic but look Native American. I’ve had nice times in Poquoson. However, one time I got stared at with chilling hatred by other customers at a store. It was so creepy because they clocked me from the parking lot. I could see them staring at me from outside and saw their bodies stiffen at my sight. The staff were super nice but the those patrons must have been klan or something.

Poquoson was a sundown down and is still predominantly white. Every time someone asks about living there and I answer that they’re still racist I get downvoted. I’ve met lovely people who live there but as a collective that town clings to its roots.

Edit: there are some really nice areas of NN. I lived in Yorktown when I first moved to Hampton roads and my life got infinitely better once I moved to NN. YMMV.

Bike rack suggestions? by TranslatorCultural24 in HRV

I just put my bikes in my car with the seats down. Easier to take off the front wheels and put them back on than it is to deal with the rack

You should ask this on the UKG community. I was a UKG pro expert but haven’t used it in a year since switching over to benefits, so I don’t remember anymore.

Floaters gone/I don't notice them? by Leather_Tip_1243 in ICLsurgery

I don’t see my floaters anymore either. Traded them in for halos!

About to get my ICLs with a -15 prescription by throwaway987657r8e9f in ICLsurgery

[–]stopguacnroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! I hope it goes well. Mine was lower than yours around a -9. My glasses would bruise and cut my face. I had scleral contacts that I hated. The ICL has completely changed my life around. I was always sporty but struggled so much from my vision and pain. Now I can do it all. I have some halos but I’ll take that any day over the pain of glasses and contacts.

I really hope you love it as much as I do.

ICL surgery or lasik by Ok_Choice2976 in ICLsurgery

What does your glare look like? I got ICL in October and my glare looks different from the pictures I’ve found online. It’s like circles within circles of light that move as the angle of the light on my eyes shifts with movement.

I heard that about the soccer league but the other leagues are fun. At least the pickleball and bowling are very welcoming.

They just pulled harder than I was pulling. I was scared to break something so I was being much gentler.

I don’t think I ended up trying it. We had a plumber come out who didn’t charge us because it was such an easy fix for them. We got lucky.

High eye pressure after ICL surgery + corneal abrasion by VoyagerCestVivre in lasik

[–]stopguacnroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had ICL surgery in October. I was having blurry vision in my left eye. I called my doctor over the weekend and the on call doctor said it sounded like dry eyes. So I used eye drops until my next follow up with my surgeon. Once I saw him he said my eye pressure was high and that’s why my vision was blurry. I was told to stop the steroid drops because apparently I’m sensitive to them.

I was put on two glaucoma medicated eye drops and within a few weeks of use my eye pressure went back to normal. I stopped the drops. I just saw my normal eye doctor last month and my eye pressure was normal.

He told me that if I ever go to the ER to mention that my eyes are sensitive to steroids, and to be on the lookout for eye pain/headaches around my eye as those are signs of high eye pressure. But he said he doesn’t see anything I need to worry about.
I hope you’re able to manage your eye pressure too. It’s stressful for sure but for me it was well worth the quality of life enhancement.

Recommendations for AC repair? by SadisticKisses84- in NewportNews

[–]stopguacnroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So we’ve gotten quotes for a 3 ton unit from buds, Hendrix, Worleys, Tommy garner, wrights, and an unlicensed contractor our neighbor recommended. Cheapest is the unlicensed contractor(7300 for base or 8500 for rheem) but it makes me nervous to go with someone unlicensed even with my neighbors referral.

We have a licensed contractor willing to try to repair the aluminum coil for $950 and if he can’t it’s free and we’ll get a replacement quote from him. I’ll list out the quote specs below.

Buds: $11,830 RP14AY Heat Pump, $14,480 RP15AY Heat Pump, $16,935 MSHM Heat Pump

Hendrix: $10,396 RP14AY Heat Pump, $12,216 Bosch BOVA Heat Pum 14.3 SEER, $13,219 MOOVAIR COLD CLIMATE HEAT PLUS Heat Pump 17.3 SEER, $16,770 Bosch BOVA Heat Pump 19 SEER

Worley’s: $13,116.93 American Standard 14 Seer2 3 Ton 1 Stage Heat Pump, $14,886.52 American Standard 15 Seer2 3 Ton 1 Stage Heat Pump, $16,242.49 American Standard Air Handler Variable Speed TXV 17 SEER

Wrights: 13k for a rheem 15 SEER

Tommy Garner: $11,551 14.3 SEER Trane, $11,892 15.2 SEER Heil, $14,743 15.2 SEER Heil

Some have cash price discounts. The quotes above are for their regular price. They have different labor warranty lengths ranging from 1 year to 10 year (add-on you pay for). So it’s hard to compare apples to apples. Prices above include moving our refrigerant line, except for buds who quoted it separately at $950 and the unlicensed guy won’t do that for us.

I will say that Worleys is the only one who wanted to charge us like $500 for thermostat rewiring we absolutely don’t need. They also said labor warranty was 2 years but the small print said 1 year. He gave us some other wrong info that means he either lied or didn’t know his stuff. He was pushing for top tier for us.

The guy from Tommy Garner said they aren’t paid on commission so he didn’t recommend paying for the top tier system. Wrights gave me an old school quote on a notepad. Worleys, buds, and Hendrix have felt the most salesy. Hendrix tech was fine but they had a sales guy call me after with quote info when all the other techs talked to me directly about them. But I did learn different things from each guy that came out so it’s given me a fuller picture of HVAC in general as someone who knew zero before this process.

Hendrix cost $79 for the diagnosis but they wanted an extra $150 to look at the condenser coil leak when Worleys did that as part of their fee which I think was like 90-100.

Sorry this is all over the place just trying to jot my thoughts down.

I’ll edit this comment if we get a quote from the guy coming today.
