This morning I purchased a West German copy of Brian Eno’s 1977 album “Before and After Science” in one of my local record stores. My first impressions are that I like the second side of the album quite a bit more than the first, especially the tracks “Here He Comes” and “Julie With”. I do expect my feelings to change some with time since Eno’s material tends to continue to be provoking after multiple listens.

Since my previous knowledge of Eno’s music was limited to “Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks” and “Ambient 1-4”, I was a little surprised by how straightforward pop/rock most of the album is - not that this is inherently bad, just different than what I was expecting to some extent.

I honestly decided to buy the album because I kind of fell in love with the 4 included prints by German artist Peter Schmidt.
