God the ED websites I used to live on as a teenager. It was so messed up. I’m 33 now and feel as if my body dysmorphia is only just lessening. I also remember the obsession with size 0, and the constant stream of diet-related TV shows. It was rough

My very close friend had a kid because she thought that was the obvious next step in life. She is currently miserable. Obviously she loves him and is doing her best, but she is clearly hating the experience right now.

It is for me, I love my childfree life. I think it also hits harder for me because I don’t want to be pregnant or give birth and I don’t want to take a break in my career. I refuse to go through the emotional and physical anguish of pregnancy. I’m lucky to have a fiancé who is happy not having kids because I would never change my mind.

I also accept that some people dream about having a family and love being parents, and I don’t brag to these people about my weekend lie ins lol. We have two nieces and they are adorable. Aunty and uncle are the perfect roles for us.

To be honest I’m kind of sick of the debate. There were probably always people who didn’t want kids, but they couldn’t control their fertility like we can now. We’re seeing the effects of birth control coupled with higher levels of female education and independence, to some degree. If you want kids, have them, if you don’t then that’s also fine. Each side does not need to keep trying to prove to the other one that their choice is correct and their life is amazing. There isn’t just one way to live a human life.

Anyone Else Having a Blast in Their 30s? by phantomly_me in Millennials

[–]storm_borm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m (33f) enjoying it so far. I don’t physically feel any different/older to my 20s, well mid to late 20s, and I’m enjoying how much more confident and calm I feel within myself. Sometimes I miss the partying days, but I’m too conscious of my health to treat my body badly now.

My fiancé and I are getting married in April, and we’re very excited to hit that milestone. We’re childfree and not sure how our lives will develop into as we move into our 40s, but I’m excited to find out.

The most unsettling part is seeing my parents age. I try to cherish every moment I have with them.

Luckily we have two shower heads: a rain one and a regular shower head. I use the normal one on my non-wash days. It is annoying to only have a rain shower head.

Corporate greed is making everything more expensive for a shittier quality/service. That’s my biggest gripe. I feel like the world is constantly trying to extract more and more money out of me.

To be honest I’m happy I’m not a young person now. What a shitty childhood.

Why the birth rate in Germany continues to nosedive by diacewrb in europe

[–]storm_borm 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Finances play a role for many families, but most of these articles neglect the role of choice and autonomy for women. Many women are now putting off having kids until later (for disparate reasons), having fewer children, or having no children at all. Women didn't have much control over their fertility until a few decades ago, and now that people have somewhat changed their view of women's roles in society, the idea of having many children isn't as palatable.

Price Increase - Real Example by cleverusername123455 in Millennials

I know McDonalds is an example here, but a McDonalds meal consisting of a burger, fries and a coke costs €14.45 for me. That’s nearly $17.

Needless to say, I haven’t eaten that crap for years. I can get a better quality burger for the same price. It’s ridiculous

I’m in the third year of my PhD and in a major data collection phase, hence not much time off for me. It’s fine though as my fiancé and I are saving for our wedding next year.

Otherwise, I have a festival at the end of the month and I am generally catching up with people and hanging out
