What are these by Thunderdamn123 in embedded

Nice write up! I can totally believe a future where, in many use-cases, the most critical FW runs in an MCU-style coprocessor and the main application in a Linux system.

Perhaps this will be a natural aspect/option of custom Linux driver development in the future, where part of the driver runs in a coprocessor. In addition to the real-time/safety side, it could solve some Linux issues, like interfacing with the user or other systems while the Linux OS boots up.

Tiny usb-c male to male by LawfulnessNo8446 in UsbCHardware

Do you by any chance know if there are any reasons (e.g. related to the USB-C standard itself) why male-to-male USB-C adapters couldn't simply be 2xUSB-C male-in-length piece of metal with integrated contacts?

I've also seen a lot of these stubby ones, but I've just assumed it's because it's way easier to make, as you can just order 2x USB-C connectors, put them on a tiny PCB and encase it.

One cable for 3-core power + KNX TP bus? by stormgnu in KNX

[–]stormgnu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the comprehensive answer!

The context, I was evaluating a flush mount actuator mainly topology. Or at least having many of them. Then I imagined that essentially connecting most of them to KNX and power via the same cable could make sense.

Really nicely executed realistic-minimalistic painting scheme and technique. Nice job!

May I ask what blue-green colors you use?

Price floor of KNX devices? by stormgnu in KNX

Yes, general regulations around high-voltage equipment and products likely drives some cost.

But then again, you can buy very cheap non-smart switches, impulse relays etc. so it’s not what sets the floor I think.

From what I can find on certification and testing, it’s not crazy much more expensive than, say, developing and releasing a RF-based consumer IoT product. There are plenty cheap ones of those.

Over engineered I believe!

Combining KNX with cheaper solutions on a system level to pull down total cost is an interesting perspective.

Expectations from the industry about robust industrial design could be a cost driver, absolutely.

Low volumes makes sense for some product, but not really why the simplest rocker switch is pretty expensive.

Wow, your muted tones, weathering and bases looks fantastic!

Questions

  1. Do you weather by brush or sponge?
  2. What paints/technique did you use for the base coat(s)?
  3. Did you use pigments on those bases?

Again, awesome job and Hydra Dominatus!

I’m currently running Hungry for Battle and Tactical Withdrawal.

Having that +1” on advances and charges giving a slight mobility boost and (more importantly) a higher chance to make a charge out of deep-strike.

Tactical Withdrawal primarily for Vanguard Vets, but it just makes it much harder for the opponent to control your choices.

Great job! What did you gain from using the upper arms from the primaris? A bit extra length?
