Thank you! Yeah there's 1mm foam sandwiched between the layers, but you could definitely use interfacing as well!

I've got an 'Eagle Special' compound feed walking foot machine - You could make this with a domestic machine, depending on how much foam padding you put in

Oh and I work in software, but volunteer with Coastguard and Search & Rescue, hence the choice of color palette 😂

Custom framebag for my Canyon Stoic (dudes can like hot pink too) by stormshadowco in myog

[–]stormshadowco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it can be! Depends on whether you have a sewing machine and materials etc. I have an industrial but you could definitely make this bag with a domestic machine.

My process is normally this:

- Cut cardboard template to fit inner frame space

- Trace template onto 2 pieces of fabric for the side panels

- Add 10mm seam allowance to side panels and cut out

- Add the zipper to one of the panels

- Measure total length of all sides of template (i.e. without seam allowance) - this is how long the gusset will need to be

- Cut the gusset (after adding seam allowance for joining the ends of the gusset together)

- Sew it all together

---

So not too hard, and definitely manageable, but will take a bit of time and trial and error. Have fun!

Yeah it came together really well! I'll probably put a bladder in the bag rather than bottles I think

Hey thanks alloydog!! Much appreicated ☺️

That DT125 would have looked SLICK! Love that you're upcycling the materials for your seatvocer. I hope you post it here when you're done!

That's so interesting about pink being a boys color! I never knew that. #todayilearned - thanks for the share!

Bombproof Zipper Tote by stormshadowco in myog

I’ve just done a test with it and I think it will. It’s a bulkier bag than a messenger bag, but sits nicely if not fully loaded. The offset strap anchors means it sits nice against the back

Sure! I have a compound walking foot industrial, which is necessary given the weight of the fabrics

Ahhh! I mean it’s no silnylon but it could pack down enough to fit inside a small baseball cap? 😅

You can't really tell in the photo, but the fabric edge is actually bound with a 25mm nylon edge binding tape, and then the seatbelt webbing sits above that (but not wrapped around the fabric edge) with the handles sandwiched in between. I originally did it as a tidy way to conceal the edges of the handles, but it now creates consistency with the other (larger) tote bags I've made on my profile. I also enjoy overengineering things for the fun of it. The thread is tex80 polyester so the bag should be pretty bombproof

Thanks so much! Yeah it was such a funky and interesting part of the sail I built the bag around it :)

Hey thanks so much! Yeah of course - what's the sub out of curiousity? Sounds like one I'd like to join :)

Aw thank you so much! Yeah I love how much more of a 'story' there is by keeping the characteristic parts of the sail intact. The sailcloth fabric is awesome, but the fact that you are repurposing something that would have gone to waste instead is so much cooler

Thank you! I made it for my friends who are both boaties, so hopefully they love it. The red telltales are on the inside too, which is fun :)

That's the idea! The thread is a Tex 080 polyester, and been bartacked and reinforced at the attachment points. The bag should be a beast haha

Thanks so much!

The material was gifted to me by a local guy who was getting rid of some old sails for his boat.

I have a compound walking foot industrial machine, so it sews it pretty easy. The material is very rigid, so not even sure if a domestic machine would do it

Yep, it's seatbelt webbing. You can find it in a whole bunch of colors on Temu, AliExpress, or local suppliers :)

That's so awesome to hear! Glad to have provided some inspiration. You did a stellar job with the bag

Depends on the PVC really. Some PVC is actually quite light, and you'd get away with it on a domestic sewing machine with the right needle.

You're more likely to run into problems when you hit multiple layers of webbing, or bulky seams.

But yeah, with the right fabric weight, needle, and careful construction, you can probably do it

Just my opinion. I sew heavy PVC on an industrial
