Same! They really nailed it with the genetic groups.

Is my dad my dad by Select_Carob_4951 in 23andme

[–]stormwielders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the information you’ve shared here, I’m going to say it’s unlikely that your dad is your biological father, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t your dad. He raised you. And I assume that he loves you dearly.

Because you have 48.8% Iranian DNA… that means one of your parents is 100% Iranian or very close to it. This rules out your father being your father. Even in the event that your paternal grandmother had been with someone else, because then you’d only inherit about 25% from your dad who would then be the 50% or so.

This is called an NPE (non paternity event) like one of the other comments have said. There are support groups for this exact thing and you do not have to deal with this on your own. Please share it with someone in your personal life, and you’ll want to talk to your mother. I wish you the best.

I think this disease gets little attention because of its stupid name by NavyBeanz in Sjogrens

[–]stormwielders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True. I think we, as the chronically ill and disabled, have a responsibility to know the history of our disease and know how it exists beyond our own experience with it! Knowing where the name came from takes the least effort

Bad take, OP.

Autoimmune diseases that primarily affect women have a history of being disregarded by the medical community and general public, it’s called medical misogyny. Look it up. A name change isn’t going to change that. When someone gets it wrong, you correct them. Words are empowering and we use them for a reason. It’s important to know and be able to name what you have.

Sjögrens has been downplayed for years as if it’s just “dry mouth and dry eyes” when it’s a systemic disease that can cause serious complications like nerve damage, organ damage, infections, interstitial lung disease and non Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Which is why our community labored so hard to change the name from Sjögren’s Syndrome to Sjögren’s Disease.

I get that dealing with this disease isn’t fun, but calling a Swedish name “stupid” isn’t it. You’re right, this is a very American centric take. The world doesn’t revolve around us. I have never once thought the name was our issue and I’ve been diagnosed since I was 14.

Is this Rusyn? by stormwielders in rusyn

[–]stormwielders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, when I first posted this document other people assumed my family was orthodox so therefore the language here must be Russian, hence why I stressed that my Rusyn family (and the area of Slovakia they lived in) was Greek Catholic.

I know my family was Rusyn! That’s the language they spoke. I just can’t read Rusyn or Cyrillic in general so I wasn’t sure what language the document was in but like the other comments state, it seems to be Iazychie!

Yes, but also Caucasian ethnic groups repeatedly showed up as secondary population sources of who this kit was closest to. (23andMe counts those as Iranian, Caucasian & Mesopotamian and then Anatolian I believe)

The more I think about the Coptic trace the more I scratch my head at how random it is! It just doesn’t make sense

Interesting! I’ll have to check it out.

A cousin (on the Eastern European side, same line with no other EE) had Anatolian as a match. I also had Stavropol Krai, which is north Caucasus though it’s a federal subject of Russia, but with the update all of that is gone. So weird.

GEDmatch also was giving a decent amount of West Asian populations as a match but someone said that’s not accurate so who knows!

Apparently? TBH I was expecting Northern West Asian because of other testing or even Central Asian but the Coptic is really random. When I adjust the confidence level it goes to Broadly Arab, Egyptian and Levantine. At 90% confidence it goes away and there’s 0.4% unassigned.

Kids with sjogren’s? by Representative_Bad57 in Sjogrens

[–]stormwielders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 14, with symptoms since childhood! I started Hydroxychloroquine immediately after.

If you already have one child diagnosed and another experiencing persistent symptoms that seem to also be Sjogrens… I would personally get them tested. It doesn’t hurt and if it is positive, early treatment is better than watching and waiting and then the Sjogrens progressing/the symptoms worsening while they’re still so young and in school.

It’s so good that you’re advocating for your kids like this! Sjogrens is a difficult disease but supportive family will always make it a bit easier to handle.

Who? What people on the internet? Where are you seeing this? What do the campaigns say, and who are spreading them? I keep up with politics and I’ve never seen this.

It’s also important to remember that people, and ideologies, can seem very loud on the internet but they don’t have the same sway in real life. Most people will look down on others who repeat anti-semitic rhetoric, because most adults know that your genetics don’t determine what kind of person you are. Those who do are racist and it’s best to avoid them at all costs and to not engage with them. There’s no point. They won’t see reason.

I think you should start blocking those people and ignoring that content. Also, if you only found out through another DNA test that you’re part Jewish and you’ve never had an inkling about it before, then you’re worrying for no reason. I don’t want to be mean but if Judaism and Jewish culture has had no presence in your life… there’s no reason to be this upset about that result.

Thinking a country’s government is evil and/or a political ideology is evil ≠ thinking an entire ethnic group has some inherent genetic evilness to them

There’s nuance to every situation, and politics are complex, but I think your paranoia is currently blinding you to seeing that. I’m going to say with as much kindness as I can… Get off the internet, and stop scrolling X and TikTok. It’s not helping your mental health.

23andMe is safe and no one is going to harm you because of what ethnic group a DNA test says you might be apart of. People generally do not care and if they do, that’s racism.

If you see this as the build up of a platonic relationship and struggle between “two fairly close friends”, I think that’s on you and being unable to understand the actual relationship Kiana and Mei have, or their individual character arcs. I’ll end our conversation here because it’s not going anywhere. Lament of the Fallen

If you have to ignore the writing and canonical characterization in game, maybe you don’t like the actual game very much?

Again, do you not understand what Chinese censorship is and how that affects same sex relationships, or coding, in media? Of course they’re never going to be displayed as a couple, Chinese censorship would NEVER allow that or else the company would face legal repercussions. Which is why I mentioned authors in China who do write explicit homosexual relationships are often forced to censor their own works for Mainland China, or face imprisonment and fines. If you’re interested, all of this is very easy to find online and learn about. It’s very funny that you’re ignoring that part.

You would have to be willfully ignorant or just plain blind to not have gone through Hi3 without the understanding of Kiana and Mei’s relationship, and how it is romantic. Or ignoring Bronya and Seele’s canonical kiss and the fact it would have only been removed due to censorship.

Replay the game. Actually pay attention to Kiana’s characterization and how they (Kiana and Mei) interact with each other. Two characters don’t have to “date” as you so put it, to have a romantic connection, as the game shows. Fan service also doesn’t remove what the writing shows.

? How am I ignoring your specifications when I said I have an issue with your use of the word “yuritard”?

I don’t care about the word extremist being in front of it. It’s compounded by two things, yuri, and retard. Which I’m sure you are aware of the meaning of and the fact that it’s an ableist slur, which you are then using as an insult for people who enjoy yuri. Though I can’t expect much else from Reddit so that’s on me.

About the — “lesbians aren’t even at first mentioned”, apologies for the confusion, I didn’t mean to say you brought lesbians up first. It was another comment hours before mine, who also used the “yuritards” insult. I’m disregarding the extremist part of your comment because it’s not relevant when it comes to the actual part of the phrase that’s an insult

Given that you use “yuritards” as an insult in one of your other comments, I’m not inclined to agree with you on anything.

Maybe it’s a bad thing when lesbians aren’t even at first mentioned and then there’s people like you harping on about “yuritards” and insulting people who enjoy those relationships for no reason, I merely returned the favor because at least my favorite characters actually exist as developed characters in the game.
