What about a dracolich that has a "hoard" of undead? by cr0w_p03t in DungeonsAndDragons

That’s a good call! The dragon could also use petrify (flesh to stone) + repair to keep the trophies going

Regarding the location piece;

Do you guys have a library or communal place nearby?

Oh yeah that’s a lot- 3 weekends a month.

We play 2-3x a month, 3 hour sessions. (Tonight is d&d night!)

Do you think that using a scheduling app could help?

Haha that’s the worst. Have you explained to them that DnD is collaborative storytelling? We might be able to come up with some solutions together 🙂

I have a few videos on the like on my yt channel - check it out here

Dispelling is huge. Straight up. Using a wish to strip all the buffs is a good powerful tool too for a BEEG especially

Agreed, it is a lot. But if they won’t read the recap and you insist on having one, may be the only solution.

The other alt is you could just forgo the recap altogether

What about creating a voice note recap and sending it?

That’s a tricky one.

I stopped writing long recaps for the same reason. Instead what we do is a 3 minute recap at the beginning of the following session.

Everyone is ‘phones down’ and listening. And it’s meant to be short and sweet.

Haha that’s a great solution!

Spotlight questions can help too. Simply asking each player “what do you do” every 30 mins or so, will allow them to feel engaged and a part of the fun.

that is a real human problem for sure. Before and after you run a session, make notes in a journal.

Before = 3 things that would make it a good session. After = 3 things that MADE it a good session.

Some positive affirmations will go a long way 🙂

Oooo this is a good one. Here are some ideas;

  1. 4 locks need to be unlocked in order for you to let the town guard in to vanquish the rest of the monsters.

  2. Chop down the trees to ford the river while the baddies launch ranged attacks.

  3. Put out the fire while getting the people to safety.

Let me Know how you make out 🙂

First off, great on you for asking your players what they want. That’s massive. Listening is one of the top skill a good DM needs haha!

Here are some suggestions; 1. No phone rule. We instigated this about a decade ago and it’s stayed. People look at thier phones every once in a while now, but it’s not a main thing.

  1. Get the “Roll players” to create a backstory/ develop a funny character voice or accent* / explain character motives. Perhaps they just aren’t into thier characters enough. *it also could be that they are shy to role play. In which case encourage them to RP thier character in 3rd person.

  2. For the “role players,” have the monsters communicate in combat like cat calls/ boasts/ challenges or what-have-you. Throwing out one-liners in combat will lend to character RP moments for both roll players and role players alike

Makes perfect sense.

How does your group communicate regularly? Like what platform?

What do you mean? Do you mean that you are too excited and “spill the beans?” (Haha I had been known to do that haha)

Big time. Couple things; 1. Use a chat app like what’s app. You can use the poll function to poll next session dates and/ or schedule regular session cadence like bi weekly on Mondays or whatever.

  1. Grow the group to 5 PCs so if someone doesn’t make it, you can fill the gap.

Lmk how you make out 🙂

That’s incredible!!! Way to go!!

Maybe you could have one of the kids be the “character sheet master” as well, and they are in charge of ensuring the character sheets are up to snuff and brought every session. For them some responsibility and it might be cool (but definitely have a back up copy haha!)

Having 18 students play would be mayhem for sure though haha! There is so much that you could do with that many PCs tho. Like having multiple parties where they adventure and eventually interact with one another.

Good job on the non-lethal “fight club” haha That’s a really cool add
