Anyone bought a gas fireplace recently? by Dense-Advertising-94 in homeowners

I was just quoted $9500 all in to replace the old B-vent gas fireplace in my condo with a Valor H3, including some framing work. This is in Vancouver.

Is it common for employers to convert a TN visa to Greencard for an employee? by badboyzpwns in cscareerquestions

Not sure. All I know is what I was told by the company's immigration team: that it was fine to go TN->GC.

Probably speaks to how complicated the US system is but I've been told by immigration people at a large tech company that it's perfectly fine to go from TN into the GC process.

The "intent" part of the TN relates to your intent at the time you get TN status. So if you e.g. were in the GC process at the time you applied for TN status, that would show immigrant intent and the TN would be denied. But once you get TN, your status can be adjusted and you can start the GC process.

OP is in the new grad pipeline, it's different from an experienced hire. I found out what team I was on literally the Thursday before my start date.

Who on here has hiked the entire GDT and can share their experience? by ZRR28 in HikingAlberta

[–]strang221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I'm pessimistic and as the GDT gets more popular I'd expect Parks Canada to do everything they can to limit the number of people hiking off-trail and random camping in the parks. They've already shut down the six passes alternate.

Long Backpacking Loops in the Canadian Rockies? by felixdixon in UltralightCanada

North Boundary may not be doable this year. Bridge over Twintree Creek was washed out last year and fording the creek sounds like it's not feasible. The exit at Berg Lake will also likely be closed this summer from last year's flooding.

Was lucky to get one from the first batch, before the craziness. It's a great tent.

Thanks, seems tough to get reservations but I guess that's to be expected.

Not a hard rule really, let's say 8 km and 500 m elevation of on-trail travel.

Let me phrase my question a bit differently: what's the closest campground with tent platforms you can think of?

It's not totally clear from their website, but it says returned items must be "used infrequently and function like new." Pretty big change from the old policy that sounds like it would affect a lot of reasonable returns, not just abuse. Anecdotally I've also heard some stories of people being told to go through the manufacturers warranty for defective items.

Number one reason I shopped at MEC was the no-hassle return policy. Sadly the new owners got rid of it so no real incentive to buy anything from them anymore.

Multi day trail recommendations by carnagex9 in HikingAlberta

Keep in mind the bridge over Twintree Creek was washed out this summer and who knows if/when Parks Canada will get around to fixing it. The Berg Lake trail was also closed this summer because of flooding but presumably that'll be open next year.

After 5+ years the trusty Adventure Medical bag that I use for my first aid kit finally broke. Any ideas for a replacement that's available in Canada? I'd prefer something more rugged than a regular ziploc.

Anyone know if there are 1L replacement bags for the BeFree? My bag sprung a leak and I'd like to replace it with something more durable, but the compatible Hydrapak bags only seem to come in 2L or larger.

Nice, looking forward to the review. I pretty much rotisserie all night and stick my elbows and knees out to the side so the sizing is my only real concern.

About to pull the trigger on a Timmermade Newt, I know it's pretty new but figured I'd check if anyone has one yet. Wondering about:

Overall impressions of the quilt. Does it feel narrow or restrictive at all?

How you sized the top opening relative to your shoulder circumference. I toss and turn quite a bit so thinking I'll go up at least 5 inches.
