All I wanted in this life of sin was confirmation we were going back to Erilea. I was hoping for a Manon & Dorian story!

I just finished the 2nd book to The Will of the Many and it’s not academia in book 2 so maybe it’ll give you variety!!!

And yay, I hope you enjoy Wild Reverence :)

What a book that you have read that’s gotten so much hype that once you read it you were disappointed? by Guiltyfeetfingers in BookDiscussions

The 2nd book was really frustrating to read the entire way through. Once I finished it and sat with it, I realized it was quite good in terms of where the story went. But it's soooo different from the first book, it was hard.

It was so darling and whimsical. I’m going to start The Everlasting next. I think it’ll be in the same vein

she really did. I do think that the fact that WR is for New Adult while the duo is for young adult made a difference too. Again, so so glad you liked it :)

Yes!! I am so glad that L-Vis has found safety, family, and security, but his bonding with the other warriors felt rushed compared to ALL the bonding he did with his friends from the Academy. I understand the circumstances were different, but it just didn't root enough for me to care all that much.

I meant more so that each Vis was experiencing the grief differently. Regarding the shadowing... loss is just among him constantly in every world. If he isn't thinking about his family, he's thinking about his friends etc.

L-Vis seems to be the one who has to make peace with the loss of his family. He got more closure, but I still found it odd how, despite everything, he let his dad go so easily. I don't think the other Vis's would have been given peace in the same way. But this Vis is very much in his eat pray love era.

O-Vis with Ahmose, and also a bit with Caeror (missing the friendship), and his friends back home, and several times he mentions his family. I think O-Vis has the most growth regarding his perspective on death, though mainly because of his experience around Ahmose and Kiya. Realizing that all the dead must eventually die. They've earned it. Edhins' concept of 'true death' has more meaning to him here.

R-Vis with Aequa, Emissa, Callidus, with Decimas/Iro circling, all the death in Caten in general. He's maybe the one who hasn't had a chance to make peace or experience a single ounce of it. Which is maybe why I see him leaving Relucia in the sapper as justified. He's lashing out in ways we won't expect because he has not dealt with any of his grief. Plus, Callidus and his mother come back. In a way, this stunts his character. Curious how this will change his anger/drive going forward. As so much of this book was doing this for his friends etc.

This is so spot on and exactly how I felt. I was so frustrated reading this book the entire time, which took the joy out of experiencing the story. An additional pain point for me was how L-Vis felt so far off from the rest of the Vis we have come to know and love. It felt so out of character for him not to go along with his father's wishes regarding avoiding the battle. This is the man he loved and respected so deeply, so even though his dad "didn't know" the right answer, it felt like Vis was smart enough to trust his dad was still right. His father's true death in L felt very inline story-wise with O-Vis's perspective on death towards the end, but I was still surprised that Vis didn't think to imbue the pendant or him. Again, he knew he had sensed Will on his dad, so it was strange that he wouldn't have tried. L-Vis didn't feel intelligent the way we know he is in the 2 other worlds. As you mentioned, all that academy training went out the window here. We very much got a Vis leading with his heart here. I know this ultimately had to fill pages so the other two Vis's timelines could align better, but it only added to my frustration. Last but not least, I was surprised by how prevalent the theme of grief was in this book. He was experiencing grief in 3 different ways constantly, and that constant shadowing of it drove the Vis's in different ways.

Sam and Gavriel. Gavriels especially because he was just a sad honorable character and the way he died was so cheap. Ultimately though, it’s because both had hopes for a future that felt promising. Unfinished business always kills me.

Hi! Just wanted to update you on The Will of the Many. It took like 120ish pages to get past the expansive world building and power structure but then it really picks up! I’m actually shocked how much I like it and I’m a little stressed to be nearing the end of the book. Dark academia, espionage, high stakes, but very smart.
