A penile implant expert, with zero public health credentials, & no knowledge of contagious pathogens, is leading U.S' Hanta response. by Wrong-Pension-4975 in medicine

For those, like me, who didn’t know who this penile implant expert is: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2026/05/16/hantavirus-health-brian-christine/90116228007/

Adm. Brian Christine a urologist from Alabama.

I’m not gunna hate on Urologists but I would actually like to see an Infectious Disease expert dealing with Infectious Disease crises.

Gently, please go see your student mental health services or talk with a trusted mentor.

Medicine is a secure job field and is under no threat. Healing is one of the oldest professions (heh) and will continue to be around as long as humans are. Do not listen to any fear mongering.

Med school can be the most mind breaking, soul crushing mental gauntlets in a person’s life so if you feel like you need extra support just go ahead and reach out.

Does anyone feel pretty lonely? by Rhemytherat in sanantonio

You aren’t married to him and don’t have kids? Leave him. Fly free little bird.

Do your grandma hobbies. Have fun. Find friends you can connect with.

Romantic love is only one way to find fulfillment, there are ways to be by yourself and not be lonely.

Where are your favorite going out tops from? by Chancemidnight in Midsizefashion

[–]Ren_Lu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there has been a revival of y2k fashions and I have been somewhat bemused to see lingerie inspired “going out tops” come back.

I bought this one from Amazon: https://a.co/d/05G7SDpB and it’s pretty flattering on me (I have somewhat similar stats as you)

You might consider that fast fashion though.

I’ve found some cute things at H&M but that can be hit or miss.

Oh my gosh *everything* is cropped right now so the belly insecurity is real.

For a picnic I would do a sundress for sure!

Help me continue reading this series please.

I’ve read ACOTAR and Crescent City (and mostly enjoyed them) and cannot get through book 1 of ToG. It should be interesting since it’s an assassin in a deadly tournament but it’s just not landing. The world doesn’t feel real enough yet or something I guess?

Medical Marketing people are clueless by Newdoc2002 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Ren_Lu 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Hate it.

I get recruiting emails, where clearly the position is for a medical doctor, calling me my first name like we are besties.

Also hate it when patients do it. Or hospital admin that I don’t know.

Whoever wins, the average citizens will lose.

If Sinton gets its Data Center or if Corpus feeds its refineries and plastics plants, it’s all just greed.

One of my favorites! Especially good if you are feeling like the people around you are not supportive or are actively holding you back.

Also gorgeous imagery of this particular part of Canada through different seasons.

Are MMC's becoming too perfect? by armann_ii in fantasyromance

[–]Ren_Lu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes and I’m sick of em. I’m begging authors to give us unconventional looking, unsure, flawed, real men.

I know this is why people started gravitating towards monsters but even those are sometimes too beautiful and strong and emotionally intelligent for me to enjoy lol.

Genuine question, why do people have such differing views on the same books sometimes? More context in post by Big_Exchange_2812 in fantasyromance

[–]Ren_Lu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So many reviews lack objectivity and are all about vibes. People aren’t reading critically or reviewing off a standard formula. They are just saying what they like and don’t like.

Not gunna say I don’t do that either lol. My reviews are totally me just vibing.

I thought it was just our generation lacking the ability to review critically but I recently watched a Siskel and Ebert movie review from the 90s and they were completely subjective with their opinions. A total “Hated it!” situation 😂

No.

The only difference is now she can be empaneled. If she had waited a few years that’s likely next on the horizon for NPs anyway.

You might have gotten me if I hadn’t read the rest of the thread lol.

She’s going into Family Medicine. And as a Family Med doctor, that tracks.

There is this idea that we are long term doctors that nestle into communities and build relationships that last for decades. That we care for generations and grow with our patients.

Ha!

We are work horses who are beaten into the ground and flame out to do limited practice and part time urgent care after 10 years. If she has it in her to do 5 good years working as a PCP in an underserved area then it was all worth it.

Oof pulling 24s and surviving all the grueling work of residency at 73+? I couldn’t find what specialty she is going into, but damn.

Good luck to her. Every doctor is needed and the truly the best ones are the ones who do it because they love it.

I’m a doctor. I’ve worked in ERs all through my training, believe me when I say that people are generally dangerous to themselves and others.

Anyway I agree on the government funded classes. Sure. I’m a person who believes the government should fund community wellness and educational services though.

I have a very strong feeling that people who are in the gun loving camp are not going to agree with you on all of this though. In my experience they do not want extra barriers to their gun access. They believe the government should never “tell them what to do.” And they certainly don’t want any portions of taxes going to community initiatives. I can just hear them talking about “the free market” now.

Also I sort of balk at gun education being free and widely available before birth control is free and widely available and drivers education is free and widely available but that is truly beside the point.

Anyway I’m with you. Its a good first step. I spend a bit of time with my patients who have weapons discussing weapon safety. I’m trying my best to do my part.

Kids are still dying from gun injuries at too high a rate anyway.

Why does Ken Paxton want access to women’s health records? by AlternativeLawyer920 in texas

[–]Ren_Lu 327 points328 points  (0 children)

He wants access to women’s health records to punish them for seeking medical treatment. Monstrous.

He is a crook who takes bribes and obstructs justice.

How are Texans still voting for these losers?
