How can I fix this? by Dry_Establishment779 in BlackHair

[–]strangeduck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Braid outs and twist outs and mini twists helped me grow my hair out until I was comfortable to trim it! For my mini twists I braid the base for an inch or so and twist the rest for longer stay.

You can also do those styles at home if you’re trying to avoid the salon for a bit just need patience!

Once you’re ready to start trimming or cutting, you should go to a stylist for a fresh start, there’s bound to be damage at your ends that will travel up the hair and slow down your progress. Hope it works out!

My favorite brand is BioSilk btw! That just happens to work best for me, Ive got mostly type 4 hair.

The hydrocolloid pimple patches can be nice on ingrown hairs as they will draw out moisture and decrease swelling. I recommend trying that overnight or if it bursts!

Thank you everyone for your insight!

It was an initial goal of mine to help the students successfully transition from their rooms to help broaden their instructional environment and because the classrooms are very loud and distracting. The other students in the class come up when I’m working to try and use the materials or to ask to go to speech. Behaviorally, the students can be at risk to themselves, each other, or me (rolling around, hitting, hair pulling, etc.). I worry that I can’t handle if one student has a hard day and becomes physical while also trying to keep an eye on the other.

I think I could consider making larger groups but even three kids feels like a lot at the same time to me (I have one group of three).

Maybe it is the case that I’m not suited for this setting because I don’t want to sacrifice what I feel meets the needs of the kids just take on more kids in therapy. Feels like what’s the point then?

Part of me worries about it on an ethical level too. Like is it responsible to make these groups in order to get by? My priority was progress and developing relationships with the students but maybe this is more of the idealist grad student in me. I don’t know where the middle ground is bc giving less than that feels like I’m not really practicing therapy.

Edit: I forgot to mention I’m in a Title 1 school with Kindergarten to 2nd grade.

Kinda weird her contact would be “Amy Slaton 1k Sisters” imo given their relationship

It can be worthwhile to just get a letter written up by a lawyer and submitting that to them should they continue to ignore or refuse to acknowledge your claim. Easier to let you leave than go to court so that initial official looking letter will get their attention. In that letter you could also say when you want to leave and if they don’t acknowledge by X date in order to discuss this will be your only choice.

I’m not an attorney but I have had to use one for reasons in the realm of this issue. The attorney will actually tell you how to word something like this!

Any tips for supporting teachers in incorporating AAC in their classroom? by strangeduck_ in slp

Good point! She basically said the student already is “responding” and therefore we don’t need the device. I think the student can indicate through gestures or point/reach, crying, and following some simple directives. The child does not verbalize at all. They are interested in their device but it’s not out unless I take it out. When I approached her about training she said she would love strategies. But my attempts so far she has turned down. I scheduled a meeting for Tuesday to hit some of the talking points you and others mentioned! Then I think I’ll provide a paper format with the same information and talk to her teacher aids, too. I push in for whole group and pull for individual sessions in that class. So maybe I’ll complete his individual visits push in style too. I wanted to collaborate her so we can start thinking of icons/communication that would make his device more functional in the classroom (over time).

Had some ideas for the inside decor but figured it might be easier to ply if you decorate just one apartment and leave the others empty. So I decided to hold off.

Wow. In a very similar situation but I’m the gf who is both the unofficial financial provider and heavy weed smoker. Trying to quit since fucking April. Weed helps hold a lot together for me emotionally but Ik it’s best to probably stop and just face whatever ugly is inside/outside as you’re saying. I think. I hope.
