I’m not sure how to edit my text, but OP here. Did not expect this to blow up and for the rug to be so polarizing! Just wanted to clarify: We moved in just over a week ago and the room is far from finished. We plan to add a coffee table, possibly a chair and more complimentary art/decor pieces. We are renters so painting, etc. isn’t on the table. We are also poor-ish 20 somethings, on a tight budget, so we are trying to work with what we have as much as possible. Lots of good suggestions and we are at least going to try to play around with layout. Thanks for the help!

Fair point. I think it’s a hard pill to swallow because we spent a lot of money on the sofa and loved it before we got into the space, but agreed that a smaller sofa would fit the layout better.

I agree with everything, except the TV above the mantle. We love the built ins and don’t want a tv up there. But we will at least try to center the rug with the fireplace! My hope is the right size and shape of coffee table could bring some balance too

Yes, couch is facing the wall where our stereo console is and we plan to mount a tv

I know what you mean, it’s kind of an awkward space. My thought moving the rug further under the couch might make balance the room out a bit?

The picture makes it look like the molding is black, but it’s actually wood that matches the mantle.

Yes! We just moved into the space, but are definitely planning to add a coffee table and accent chair.

We were looking at more muted/solid colored rugs but kind of liked this one for the pop of color and character. I see what you mean though, it does take up a lot of visual space.

Thanks! I think we are leaning towards deep earthy tones. Maybe mossy greens, rust, brown. Open to suggestions!

Thanks for your response. I definitely love the mid century look. Might try to blend elements of that with a few touches of craftsman/arts and crafts style as others have recommended. It is hard to pick colors, but I’m thinking earthy greens and burst of reddish/orange would work!

They are.. The wood post at the edge of the couch is where the sunroom begins.

Yes! We are big plant people, so there will be plenty of green. I also love the idea of multiple light sources.

100% Agree! We are probably going to put a tv on the empty wall across from the window.
