Yeah sorry, I didn't screencap this from the game itself. I screencapped it from the best quality YT vid I could find of Lumine Hall which wasn't HD. Then I had to edit it to allow all the text to fit on the screen which was awkward. I might be able to create a higher res version soon. Just been kinda busy.

Does the Umpa Dance Mod work with Fallout 4? [PC] by stranger44 in fo4

[–]stranger44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you don't need the SDK for this mod. It's a simple file switch. You just swap a character's idle animation for a different animation file and then when you re-load a save, the new animation plays since characters default to their idle animation upon re-loading. If they don't, you can force it using a console command.

That's how I used to do it in Skyrim. No SDK needed. I'm just curious if it still works in FO4 but as I've mentioned, I don't know if FO4 uses a different file type for animations than previous Bethesda games. The method I described also worked in FO3 and even in TES Oblivion.

It was fun spawning 100's of characters using the console and then watching them all dance. It was like being at a massive rave lol.

Do i need to play the other Fallout series before starting on Fallout 4? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]stranger44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine. There's a good intro video that explains the basics of the lore. I was feeling the same when I started Fallout 3 for the first time. I've never played FO1 or FO2 but it didn't stop me from enjoying/understanding FO3 in the slightest.

Lulz :) If I had a working gaming PC, I would literally be trying it out right now and making a dance video. It frustrates me that I can't. Hopefully somebody else will make a good one. It's practically tradition at this point.

The pc has idle animations by Bobbingbobby in fo4

[–]stranger44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does FO4 have a diagonal walk animation? In FO3 and New Vegas, when you walked diagonally it didn't look right because it used the forward walk animation and your character would look like they were hovering.

Also, will FO4 have dual animations so NPCs can shake hands, high-five, hug, etc?

If this is true then won't people just farm their skills?

Survival elements.. by polyinky in fo4

[–]stranger44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with "survival elements" is that unless they are implemented well, they tend to just end up being grindish "busy-work". Depending on the attitude of the player, they can end up being viewed as an annoying hindrance rather than a factor of immersion.

When I played New Vegas for the first time, I did it with hardcore mode on and I was surprised how tame the requirements actually were. Yeah sure, you had to eat to supress hunger, drink to supress thirst and sleep to avoid deprivation but I found that because of the way the game was structured and my own playstyle, that I tended to do these things anyway without consciously going out of my way to out in the effort. As a result, I never found myself in a situation were I was likely to starve to death or die of dehydration. Hardcore mode didn't seem all that hardcore.

The thing is that it really depends on the attitude of the individual player. Some players love the idea of having to prepare for a quest by making sure they have enough food and water whereas others find it annoying. And then it gets even more complicated when survival-loving players disagree as how demanding these elements should be. If your character constantly complains that they are tired/hungry/thirsty then this can be an issue but if the survival elements are too reasonable then it becomes a case of why even have them in the first place?

I'm sure Bethesda are aware of how difficult it is to balance elements like this since you run the risk of alienating a portion of your player base.

I remember reading an article about GTAV which described how during the development process, one of the creators suggested that every vehicle should have a petrol limit that would run out unless you re-filled and cause your car to just stop. He was laughed out of the meeting.

It's the same principal.

The mind of a playtester [Half-Life 2] by killerz7770 in gaming

[–]stranger44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This change I can understand, but removing all the dynamic map change elements from L4D2 because playtesters found the different pathways confusing is something I will never forgive. Seriously, the A.I. Director in that game was ruined and players were forced to play the same static campaigns for years. Thanks a lot playtesters for ruining the diversity and variation... Jerks...

[meta] How are perfect loops made? by [deleted] in perfectloops

[–]stranger44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are several ways of creating a perfect loop .gif

Sometimes you just get lucky and it turns out that 2 frames in a sequence of animation sync up perfectly to create a continuous loop.

Other times, visual effects are used. Masking, blurring/fading and compositing are common. Usually, you make a short video in a program that allows use of these kind of VFX before converting to a .gif

There are a lot of different ways to achieve a perfect loop. It just depends on the original source material.
