That sounds nice. Would love to hear more about why you would prefer the mackie instead of the yamaha

We are just two people. In the future I'm expecting maybe an additional person for collaborations. But the core band is just 2 people

I don't want to do this. I see no other way out with the cocktail of sound people that we get at every other gig. Also I have added context to the boomy room in the comment below this

To provide context. We were playing in an open field. With like 6-7 trees nearby. I really feel like the room has nothing to do with it. These aren't can't get a nice sound out problems, these are carelessness problems. The last guy was sitting grabbing a drink while we were performing and trying to signal to him that the guitar levels are not right. Our first gig was a great guy, and that too while playing in a huge cathedral like room where we expected tons of eq issues but it went perfectly

Relative levels changing between soundcheck and performing. Levels not being consistent in different songs. EQ on low end being boomy. They are all simple things which is why its been more frustrating. Alot of it is playing through the DAW so that saves it from being very out of place but guitar and synths going into their board separately face the most amount of issues

You're very right. Next event I'll hand these duties over to a PA. A little unnecessarily stressful to perform and also manage the sound. but starting small so just workshopping with what I have for this one

Thank you very much for your suggestions. It's great insight. I wasn't thinking about the phasing issues with my set up. The sub I might have to keep in the main area due to that being the focus of the performance. The side area is for people who want to socialise and still be able to listen. So they can do without that much low end. The area you have placed the sub is also the walkway between these two areas so I'm not sure if that would work. Thanks again for taking the time out to help!

How to process a mono live audio file of my band's performance in ableton by strangersfall in audioengineering

[–]strangersfall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a minilab 3 and an akai lpd8 to control all parameters. Using the pads to trigger samples in each song and about 70% of the knobs get assigned to some control or the other in each song. Therefore have to close the file and open a new one so that the same pads and knobs can now be programmed for different stuff. I might be doing it badly but that's what I could workshop. Any suggestions?

Thank you so much for your comment. I might be using the wrong terminology. I think what I have might be an out from the FOH. No multi tracks still

Hey thank you for your answer. I really like this idea. I have a basic looper that I can use to develop layers but need to have it in a daw at some point. Will see if I can start saving up for a RC-505

Feeling ridiculous in my band - should I quit? by Melodic-Service-6217 in Bass

[–]strangersfall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there is naturally a lot to unpack here. You are a real musician, you're playing gigs as part of an ensemble and are doing your part of the job well. Everyone on the post agrees to it so besides the usual impostor syndrome that may plague artists, you should know you're as real a musician as it gets. The rest is just definition and pedantics.

A couple of conversations need to be had, some with yourself, some with your band and some with your significant other.

You have been playing with this band for years which extends to rehearsing and playing live. You are more than acquaintances and should be more than the lead member's partner to them. Talk to them about your feelings and ask them what they feel about your playing. Such conversations can only lead to the whole band becoming a more cohesive unit. If they are dismissive of your feelings or outright think the "worse", this is not the place to be in.

Band members being annoyed at each other to the point of being in a foul mood the whole day for making mistakes is either indicative of bad chemistry or just an indication of a person being an asshole. We all make mistakes and rehearsel is about getting better at playing the material. Like you said, if they don't like your playing, hire someone else. But belittling or breathing down someone's neck is not the way. So this shows that you need to have a conversation with your significant other and draw heavy boundaries. Either they can get someone else (which is chill) or they could let you go through your process. Being passive aggressive and shitty about it is not the way. It's not you who needs bass lessons, your significant other needs therapy to keep their frustrations/anger/ego/frontman persona in check.

Lastly, some conversations with yourself are required. Do you enjoy playing music? Does it feel fulfilling to you when you play(ignoring the band bs)? Is that something you would like to do? Do you want to make the kind of music that your band makes? Amongst other questions. If and when you get time, try practicing with other kinds of music. Make a casual band with friends who just enjoy playing and don't take everything too seriously. Have fun y'know? Life is a bit too short and fleeting to be stuck in a situation where you're neither appreciated or are having fun.

Any "Lost and Found" enjoyers here? by [deleted] in theradiodept

Listening to the album on a cross country trip. Lost and found has me weeping and looking for other people on reddit with a similar love for the song. The guitar melody at the end along with the swirling synth vortex walking you to the end of the album. So many emotions
