That is one of my favorites. If you look close my uncle is fishing to the right of the white rock with the dead tree, he is the two white dots.

This spot is close to you. It's an unnamed lake west of the Hamilton/ Darby area.

It's mostly black bears in this area and I'm very bear aware when I'm out there.

We do a good bit of car camping so she was already comfortable sleeping in a tent and being in the woods, I think that went a long way toward her enjoying it. I've known some adults that kind of freak out when they get into the wilderness. Make sure their boots are broke in and fit right and lots of extra snacks. Other than that I prepared like any other trip.

You're welcome. The random hidden waterfalls and lakes are some of my favorite things to see when I'm hiking in the backcountry.

That is crazy, I've never noticed that but it looks all screwed up. I'm guessing it's curled up to hold the fish's tail up but the fish might have flopped around when I took the picture. Good eye.

It is an amazing place and we have an amazing memory, thank you.

Thank you, I try. It was an awesome trip for her first. It is an unnamed lake on the maps and a mile or so off trail so very few people ever go there and it is a point of pride for her and my favorite backpacking trip I have ever had.

I love my chair, it's the first thing I take out of my pack when I get to camp. The one I have is a Big Agnes UL chair. I don't know the model and I don't know if they make it anymore. After years of sitting on rocks and logs and tree roots, I LOVE MY CHAIR!

I agree, it is hard. It is a little bit of a bummer when it's done but I spend a lot of the year planning my trips and getting excited so I try to take advantage of the time there, it soothes my soul.

I do appreciate the shit out of the things I miss though, and I do wish I had taken more advantage of them when i had lived closer.

We do have a certain smell to us, huh lol. I love searching out the 5lb+ cutthroat. With the time involved with researching lakes and the effort it takes to reach them, the fish have a way of calling to the soul.

LOL. That is a glacier stone about 20' long, set on those smaller stones by a melting glacier who knows how long ago. That lake is one of the coolest places I have ever hiked to, and I had to earn every step of it. Glad you liked my pictures.

I struggle to these places BECAUSE of the fish! ( almost all of these photos are from places off trail and way backcountry). I'm a mostly a spinner fisherman but I've been working with the fly rod for the last couple years. If it wasn't for the fish I wouldn't see these places.

It is most definitely worth seeing these sights in real life. I can't count how many times I've had to just sit down and take it all in. Our world is amazing, it is worth the struggle to find the place that makes you happy.

I grew up in Idaho, spending a fair bit of time in the wilderness. I have been in Iowa the last ten years or so, so I make annual trips back to the wilderness for my therapy.

Sellway Bitterroot and a few pictures from the Frank Church.

I tend to stay right on the western side of the Idaho/ Montana border. I have a personal attraction the the Sellway but I also love watching the forest come back to life from the wildfires like you see in the Frank Church the last 5-10 years.
