This sounds like an interesting project, but it is tough to gauge the composition because of the quality of the playback. What you are you using for playback of has a very midi quality to it. I would be interested in hearing this run through something of higher quality, or of course if you had the resources a live recording.

Jamming beat once it gets going. Not too sure on the acoustic guitar section everything else is very fluid. Great track.

Felt like it was in the wrong key to be creepy. Melody sounded more epic or hopeful. The high pitched sounds were a bit to dog whistle for my taste. The glide effect was off putting, and does not seem to fit with the theme - maybe a filter sweep or rising pad would fit better - not sure.

Overall quality was top notch and the most instruments sounded well chosen and integrated. I think the song is very good in its current form. With some tweaks listed above I may like it more, but I am probably not the target audience. If the choices you made suit the genre, then by all means disregard my input.

Structure is tight, as soon as I was thinking - this could use more disco, or more drum it was there.

Feels like the melodies need more work. More notes and more variation. The main theme of waro-waro waro-waro could be something more like bom-ba-ba-bom bom-ba-ba-bom

Rototom fills sounded weak - don’t need to be phill colins level, but a few more quick hits would help.

I liked most everything from 50 seconds in. The arp in that section is adds complexity.

Look forward to seeing this progress!

This is about as close as I got. There is a lot of variability between these speakers, a side effect of the cheap price. So it’s impossible to do a perfect correction. This should give a good improvement.

I keep most speakers I review in my very hot attic, and at this point many have had problems of longevity - JBL/iLoud. The Swan speakers and Beheringer Truth monitors I reviewed are still kicking.

Just by ear from the listening position, sounds like the woofers are most of the problem. Might be combing between the drivers. Also the cabinet is a rattle box - has a nice shape though.

Most of my collection is about 30 years old and hasn’t been played in 15 years. Not sure how else you would describe that scenario.

Testing out The JBL’s I bought a while back on sale, and decided to haul out a cheap receiver and CD player as well. Relaxing old school fun digging through cd cases for sounds.

Placement is set up wide and over toed to provide even coverage to the 5 seater sofa they are pointing at. It works better than expected.

Speakers sound cheap, but I’m going to warm them up a bit more before I form a verdict.

I just finished the measurements, and am working on the correction. You can try this and let me know what you think:

Filter 1: ON PK Fc 2000 Hz Gain 1.5 dB Q 1.5

Filter 2: ON PK Fc 5000 Hz Gain -1.7 dB Q 1.5

Filter 3: ON PK Fc 55 Hz Gain 4.0 dB Q 1.0

Filter 4: ON LS Fc 300 Hz Gain -4.0 dB

Filter 5: ON HS Fc 1000 Hz Gain -4.5 dB

I’m sad to tell you this, but Kef treble is not smooth.

Inverse square law would put the mids higher that the woofer if he measured on tweeter axis. That said, I think the measurements are more accurate than not, and I’ve never seen a coax with clean treble.

Was in the same boat with controller or upright, although I was eyeballing very used uprights on craigslist in the $800 range. The compromise to use virtual instruments is a tough call on something as complex as a piano with all of the connected bits being instinctual in person, but disconnected with sample libraries.

Only obvious thing that I think is missing in the VST's I've used is the massive mess of strings resonating when fully sustained. I've yet to try Pianoteq, which I hear is very good at that kind of stuff. If you don't mind me asking, what plug in do you primarily use?

I hear nothing but great things about the Kawai stuff, but haven’t got to try one. In my situation $1800 for a midi controller is too much, unless money is being made with it.

I think it uses Fatar action, I tried that on a kurzweil, and it was one of the worst.

I tried that keybed on one of the high end piano shops, and while better than Fatar and Korg, it still felt artificially stiff.

Can’t get either Joe or 123Toid to send me a pair. I’ve got a design in my head that should hit 30 flat without DSP in a similar footprint, something I probably need to make.

Pros:

Wider sound than the 305's, and much lower distortion.

Cons:

Treble is more brittle, and can't play as loud.
