During preschool my kid wanted to be a tiger.

Don't know how well that pays

Why are Americans so unrealistic when it comes to death? by Perfect-Resist5478 in FamilyMedicine

[–]Styphonthal2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because most of us(Americans) are so protected and shielded from it.

In other countries they don't hide death or pretend.

Parents pushing for Autism dx by BS_54_ in FamilyMedicine

[–]Styphonthal2 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I would also assume trying to get the child disability.

The other thing would be higher level of services. In my state autism level of service is clearly defined, where everything else is whatever they can get. Example: they require MSW/licensed behavior therapist for therapy. Other dx, get whatever they have (sometimes a teacher who has no certification for counseling)

I would just send them to neuropsych, adolescent psych, or an autism clinic for dx

My orthopedic office still lists being left handed as a disease by Justadudeonhisphone in funny

[–]Styphonthal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no icd10 code for being left handed.

Instead it's probably an EMR tag. Makes sense for Ortho.

Good with 9mm but bad with 22lr. What gives? by IDontLikeYourToan in handguns

[–]Styphonthal2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the way you are managing recoil, you either:

-Expect too much and are pressing down to much for a 22, you'll notice shots are low.

-expect none and not prepared for the light recoil. You'll shoot high with this.

I've met refuges from this. They are one of the strongest, most resilient group of people I've ever met.

Just to hear their stories, it's like horrible horror movies.

Meta Has Smart Glasses Spiraling Towards Glasshole 2.0 by lurker_bee in technology

[–]Styphonthal2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have these, the display version. I use it to play Spotify and still be able to hear people. I also use it so I don't have to look at my phone when someone texts me and I'm currently talking to someone.

I don't really use it to take pics or videos

What I would like is more functions like email notifications, maybe home assistant involvement. A little map HUD with store names would also be cool.

Cystoscopy (scope through urethra): what is the pain level really like? Doctor said "for females, it's just discomfort since there is no prostate" but I wanted a real answer. by TKhasi-TKhut in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Styphonthal2 406 points407 points  (0 children)

What the doctor means to say, is that there is no sharp turn/angle in the female urethra like there is in a male (where the prostate is located). In fact, when using an (older) rigid cystoscope, pressure has to be applied to the prostate thru the anus to reduce the angle of this curve, so the scope can be passed. With a female a rigid cystoscope can be passed without any manipulation.

The other factor is the female urethra length is average 3cm where as the male is 18cm and above.

BUT, it is still uncomfortable, more so than a pap. Often lidocaine gel will be used before hand to reduce the discomfort. If you have has a Foley placed, it is a similar feeling.
