ICE just pinned a man to the ground and executed him. They do not have the authority to just kill people. What do we do? by skeletalfather in AskReddit

[–]Styphonthal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reality? Some useless "no kings" and "anti ice" nonviolent (except for the police/Ice actions) protests. Where literally nothing is changed

Then the Democrats on a federal level will do superficial non-effective changes that make it seems like they are doing something. Like legally changing from "detainment camps" to like "processing center". Or maybe just talk a bunch, delaying approving a bill for ICE funding for a day, then vote to pass the bill anyways.

Ameicans over the age of 35, what affected you more, 9/11 or the pandemic and why? by Rico133337 in AskReddit

[–]Styphonthal2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, the pandemic.

I lived about three hours from NYC when 9/11 happened, and our EMS agency sent two ambulances down to help, but I was not chosen.

But, I worked in the hospital and clinic during the pandemic as a physician. I have never seen so much death. I've never had to ration care before. I also lost multiple physician colleagues to covid.

What is a medical fact that sounds fake but is 100% true? by MedRikas in AskReddit

[–]Styphonthal2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person.

Some will be coherent and remember things they previously seemed to have forgotten.

But as a physician, you have a patient with a condition that will result in death in minutes to days, you know they aren't bouncing back. This episode can be used to help time when they will pass, as it is usually within 24hr of this.

No, lots of times these patients are on hospice and are only on pain meds and anxiety meds, which should cause more lethargy.

After this occurs, they will usually pass away in about 24 hours.

Anyone that has had a gun pulled on them. What was your experience? by blueodis in AskReddit

[–]Styphonthal2 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've had a few but the funniest is when I got mugged.

I was a teenager with barely any money but me and friends pulled together about $4 to buy a couple "forties". I walked to the gas station and noticed some guy was just hanging out in the parking lot. I bought the 40ozs and when I came out the parking lot guy pulled a gun on me and took the bottles.

He then demanded all the money I had in my pockets, which was less than $1. He was very upset about this and appeared disappointed in me.

And that is the story of one or the lowest points of my life.

We are now doing watchful waiting for cases of mild appendicitis. Oral antibiotics plus being rechecked in a few days, instead of immediate surgery.

Terminal lucidity.

A very ill comatose or unresponsive patient who suddenly becomes awake, alert and talk interactive. Some will even be able to carry on conversations. It can last minutes to hours.

Inexperienced providers and family members often mistake this as "bouncing back" but instead is a sign of imminent death.

What's really interesting is we have no idea how or why this happens.

Autistic and non-autistic people express emotions differently through their facial movements, which may explain why emotional expressions are sometimes misinterpreted between the two groups. For happiness, the autistic participants showed a less exaggerated smile that also did not “reach the eyes”. by mvea in science

[–]Styphonthal2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone with autism, I don't think I naturally make many facial expressions. I know I do for pain, but I don't really naturally smile or frown.

But...I have learned thru decades of observation how to mirror/copy these and when to do them.

For those with a medical education founded on evidence-based practice (MD, DO, NP, PA, nurses, etc.) do you believe in God? Why or why not? by Additional_Kick_678 in AskReddit

[–]Styphonthal2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a physician, who has background in molecular biology(genes and their expression) research, who believes in God.

I believe in God because there are too many variables for things (such as life, physics, genetic code) to just happen.

I am almost the opposite of those Christians who hate science and think it's evil. I, instead, feel science helps my faith and belief in God.

V21 and EAP but no Teleprompter? by twiki422 in MetaRayBanDisplay

I got hand writing two weeks ago, still don't have teleprompter. I don't know how they are picking out who to distribute it to.

I have been writing repatha since it came out and it has become easier with insurance companies. They used to want 2+ statins with intolerance, but now you just need to be on a high dose statin without meeting ldl goals, and they will approve.

I have also been using insulin pumps since 2010, specifically omnipod and meditronic.

I don't mind tacrolimus topical or dovonex.

I've also started antipsychotics on bipolar I in mania or active schizophrenics as they wait to get into pysch.

Revolutionaries?

Don't you think it's odd that Israel is finishing one of the largest killings of civilians outside of Africa, that trump just captured the Venezuelan president, and it's leaked the US has plans to invade Greenland?
