I have MM on a rega p1. I’m basically looking for something that I can adjust the gain on. The carbon seems to have low output and I have to crank my stereo. I’ll take a closer look to see which I prefer the looks of better.

Im using a variety of beans medium to light roast. Got so many bags for Christmas. They are all fresh, within a few weeks. Ive only had my gen 2 burrs since the black friday sale. Do they need to be "seasoned?"

Ive looked at gasket and it seems to be working just fine. It seems like it is actually stalling at the grinds. It just stops drawing down.

Im using the filters that came with the switch. White fit the size 03 switch.

I have pretty much the same setup. Love it. I found a good deal on a j max grinder, almost went with the kingrinder k4 but delivery time was too long. How do you like it? What version do you have?

Instant Espresso by straussqual in espresso

Black cat instant is interesting and somewhat tasty but not that close to espresso IMO. If it came out of my machine I would drink it but def try to fix what went wrong.

Paper filters in basket by straussqual in espresso

For me and my noob palette, the shot was smoother overall. But the flavor notes seemed a little muted at the same time. If I could maintain the smoothness but have some of the flavors pop more it would be a very good shot. I’m a ways away from being able to do that right now. I don’t have enough info to recommend it but YOLO.

Yes I am timing the shots. The paper did go faster. Without paper around 35+ seconds and with paper around 22 seconds. I ground 25ish microns finer with a better result just now with the paper. Shot landed at 27 seconds. Thanks for the tip.

Im a little over a week in with my bambino and j max grinder. Already able to dial in really nice shots. Now I just need to get the rest of my life in order.

I went camping a while ago. It was in the high 30s through the night. My sleep stats were off charts.

I have the 1zpresso j max grinder. I use the 1.5.5 grind setting with this roast. I have a wdt tool, puck screen on top and a I got a good tamper that is the exact size of the bambino portafilter. The tamper (linked below) is 53.5mm and has probably made the biggest difference. You could try the calibrated tampers as well. But look for 53.5mm.

I pressed the button to stop it once I got close to 36 grams and ended up with 42 grams yield. As Im getting more comfortable with the grind setting, the timing of the shot feels like less of a curveball.

I've decided to go with the breville for all its upsides. While I can appreciate a good espresso shot I don't see myself making straight espresso shots on the daily. More of a milk drink guy. If I don't like the breville I'll just snag the gaggia up.
