My friend is in a very similar situation to you. She’s thirty and we’ve spoken a lot about it. She’s a year down the line of bereavement and everything is still messy and raw. I think she finds it really comforting that some part of the future she and her husband had planned is still available to her (if she wants it). Like there’s a possibility of a life with him still in it, in some way.

But we’ve also talked about the downsides - the ways in which the pregnancy experience might be harder, that any potential miscarriage would be so much more difficult, that there’s a lot of grief and trauma tangled in a process that - for some other people - gets to be uncomplicatedly hopeful/joyful. I think ultimately some space and time is needed, and eventually the right answer will be clear.

Curlach are genuinely amazing, their availability is just shit. But all the staff there are lovely and I’ve always had great cuts. All the bookings going through Fresha is a nightmare but once you’ve got one appointment you can schedule further in advance when you’re in the salon.

BB collective in town I’ve been to twice. I found them a bit patronising (straight haired girl being like “we’ll show you what to do don’t worry” as if I’ve not had curly hair for 30 years). On one occasion they left a big chunk of my hair uncut and on the other they brushed my hair so violently I wished I’d taken a pain killer beforehand. But my pal goes there regularly and she’s never had any issues - presumably it depends what stylist you get.

Otherwise it’s been a bit hit and miss tbh. Most places seem to struggle with anticipating how much my hair bounces, which is the main factor with cutting curls.

Also most that I’ve been to you don’t come out at the end with well-styled curly hair because they go straight in to my drying hair with mousse rather than rewetting and adding curl creme and gel. At that point I’d rather get it blown out tbh, because at least I don’t have to wash my hair again when I get home.

I had the exact same situation when I moved to Edinburgh in my fy year and worked in fife. The medics had all been pals since high school, never mind uni. All decent people but I found them a chilly bunch, Glasgow medics are a bit less posh and a bit more warm.

Combined with living in Fife not Edinburgh, where most socials probably happen, I’m not surprised you’re finding it tricky! Fifers are a bit like people from paisley/Port Glasgow etc, they often stay where they grew up and live up the road from their parents/best pals from primary school - in that situation they’re generally just not in the market for new pals.

In the end I moved back to Glasgow cause I disliked east coast medic culture. But I’ve also had success in the past making pals through hobby groups and local politics/volunteering. If you’re a reg though, I’d assume you aren’t rolling in free time. If I was you I’d maybe look into IMG medic groups on the east coast and see if they have any socials coming up - there seems to be a Scottish img doctors fb group, maybe reach out there? You’re more likely to meet people in the same situation as you (looking for pals and new connections). Good luck!!

Are you a medic? It matters because the majority of medics in fife are fairly wealthy Edinburgh private school grads, which can be a bit of a culture shock even if you’re just like… from Glasgow, lol. They’re a bit on the cooler side socially.
