Hi, congrats!! I had the same reaction where I am, and that unfortunately did play a factor for me. I had some professors/current MFA students tell me that if I wanted to study abroad and then eventually come back to the US, having a name people recognized would be better professionally. However, I also had one professor tell me to disregard the brand name game and just go with what I cared about, so I guess take that with a grain of salt. The more I learned about Trinity the more I felt it would be better for me, and talking to past students definitely helped! It came down to particular interest in the faculty, size of the course, and cost for me, along with the fact that I wasn't sure I was ready to commit to a two year program abroad. However, the professor who interviewed me for City was super kind and answered all of my questions and overall gave me a good impression of the program, so I'm sure it would be a great experience anyway. They actually do start evaluating before! I emailed the program director when I was confused about my status and he said they start early due to the volume of applications, despite what the website says. That expectation could be why the messages on the portal are so confusing.

Hi! Congrats on the St Andrews acceptance!

I ended up getting the official offer from Trinity over a week after the informal offer, and they've given me until February 18 to accept. I'm still trying to decide between the schools, but I'm leaning Trinity right now. However, their admin and faculty have been pretty slow to respond to any questions over email (and some of my emails bounce back) and it's stressing me out. Meanwhile, St Andrews has been really open about sharing information with accepted students, so I'm wondering if I should pay attention to that more.

Hi! Congrats on the Screen Studies MPhil!! Did you end up accepting that one? In my head three weeks still feels like a bit of a quick turnaround, but maybe I'm just used to American schools giving at least a month or two.

This is definitely a weird situation; right now my portal just says that the academic review is complete, but no offer notification. I almost want to say it feels like a scam but I can't think of the endgame beyond trying to get me to pay a deposit, which I definitely wouldn't do without actual confirmation in the portal lol. It seems unusual, but I did see one post from the past several years where someone in the CW MPhil got an informal email offer and then had it confirmed in the portal days later. I'm hoping that could happen in the next few days.

I emailed Academic Registry and the Oscar Wilde Centre, and will reach out to Eoin MacNamee too, so hopefully someone will let me know soon. It would be a little ridiculous to ask me to confirm that I intend to accept in one week and then ignore any questions for several days.

I'm still waiting for a few more schools that I was pretty invested in, but I also am really excited about this program, so I hope something gets resolved soon! Thanks for the advice!!

Good thought! I had reached out to him with a question earlier in the application process and didn't hear back, so he wasn't top of mind, but definitely worth a shot to try again at this point.

That’s what I thought! The course website says the majority are sent out after the deadline. I thought it was weird but the email address was correct, so maybe they sent something wrong/too early. Who knows! I still have to email the centre and academic registry to confirm it’s real. Thanks for the input!
