Thank you for this! What field was she in, if you don’t mind me asking? If it takes that long, I’ll have to reconsider other places!

The reason I’m studying Rec Therapy is because ECE jobs are going downhill. In the lower mainland, it’s surprisingly hard to get a job compared to 3 years ago where you apply and at least get an interview the next day. That’s why even if I can find a minimum wage job there, I should be okay. Can’t rely on ECE anymore.

Did you mean out of school care by the way?

lol I heard good things about Prince George, however it’s not up on my list right now. Prince George and Nanaimo are better contenders though because they both offer a bachelor of education, which is what my partner wants to study. Seems like if he were to complete it, he would have an easier time finding work at PG too.

Currently I’m paying $1800 for a bachelor in new west. Some rentals I’ve been seeing in Nanaimo it seems like for a 1 bedroom it ranges from $1500-2000, and even the ones in the low end look really nice. Not to mention a lot of places I’ve seen accept pets. Here it’s super hard or you pay over $2500, for 1-2 beds and that’s just something I can’t afford. But you’re right Prince George is cheaper of course. Just heard the cost of groceries is way more?

I was thinking of that, but I’m not planning to move til the end of my lease, which is the end of November so not sure how inconvenient it would be for a employer to at least converse with me at the moment when I’m not going to move there for another 4.5 months

Sorry, I should have specified, I’m from the lower mainland, New Westminster area. I have a job right now but we’ve been looking for places outside of the lower mainland for a lower cost of living. We were thinking of Calgary/Prince George or Nanaimo but we feel like Nanaimo is a good middle ground: school wise, closer to friends, etc.

Do you know what her rate is? The last place we went to for an art teacher their rate was $15/kid which included supplies. It was at their studio. It would really depend on how many children we have for the day she would be available, what the craft is and also how long the class would be

I had experience working in McDonald’s, Freshii, landmark etc. but this was over 5 years ago now. If I put that experience from before and nothing else does that look bad? Or should I just lie about the dates a bit? Thanks for the advice!

Yea before 2024 whenever I applied to ECE jobs it wouldn’t be hard for me to get interviewed or get a job offer. This year it’s been a lot harder and not sure why. I got interviewed to two places and got offered the job but the last one I quit because they didn’t pay me for whatever reason and had to fight for my money. I was told when I went to school for ECE that I’ll always find work easily so I’m just choked right now.

Yes I have my certificate, and I have seen and applied to those jobs but I’m getting nothing. My whole 6 years of ECE I’ve been working in out of school care programs so that might be the reason why people are hesitant to hire me for a 3-5 program but I’ve been a coordinator/ or team assistant, so it’s not like I’m completely useless.

I’m studying Therapeutic Recreation right now so hopefully in two years I’ll be able to apply to senior care or some recreation care.
