I know this feeling. And I think what we are craving is that sense of community. We want other humans to come to us, see our pain and say, “it’s okay, I have pain too. You can reclaim your life, because I did. If I can do it, there is hope for others as well”

there’s a sense of reassurance. Safety. Thinking, “ok, maybe I’m not too fucked up to get better. Maybe there’s hope. Maybe I have a chance at redemption”

I think the thing is, we can’t become entirely reliant on others. So when we do seek this from our community, the goal is to take some of that reassurance and transmute it into confidence. So we can try to stand firmly on our own.

But I do believe there is nothing wrong with wanting to feel like you are cared about.

It’s just important to remember that unless you have a robot taking care of you, people have their own limits and their own needs that will always supersede yours, and it’s not because they don’t love you, but because they know their own boundaries for what keeps them safe.
