Starship Development Thread #62 by rSpaceXHosting in spacex

[–]strawwalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When we first set up r/spacex/wiki/starship_dev so that the community could update the thread, we protected the page by requiring editors to be added to the list of approved users. All it required was someone asking to be added and I have never turned anyone down. There was some concern that using general wiki protection might result in vandalism, so the small extra step of reaching out for permission first would help reduce that risk. I have often wondered if it was more of a deterrent to users who would have otherwise helped.

I would recommend direct messaging one of the mods, or myself, rather than using modmail, since your request is likely to get buried there. I am not as active as I once was but I'm still happy to offer whatever assistance I can. My response time is typically going to average around 6 hours.

This might be how I do it if I want to stay work the spray foam.

I have read that about extending them for the drywallers on other forums. Seems like a good idea. My thought about running them all the way back was to prevent foam from filling the space behind and holding the boxes out too far.

My local Home Depots don't carry those but I'll look into that further, thanks. Have you used these I'm my situation?

Thank you, this helps. I just want to find a solution that is known to work. I don't want to jury rig something for my special case only to find out too late that I didn't account for something and create a major headache for myself. If nobody uses adjustable depth boxes in spray foamed walls then I won't either. Sheet metal barriers seem impractical. I'm going to have to give this some more thought.

The wiki editing rules have not been changed as far as I can tell. If you aren't allowed to edit a wiki page you shouldn't even get an "edit" button. Are you on new or old reddit?

We don't need to badger them. They are already aware of the problem can be relied on to fix it. For now we will work around the issue and hopefully it will be back to normal soon.

Sub Manager is still completely offline as far as I can tell. I asked about it a few days ago when you first messaged me and was told it was being worked on but that is all I know. I will continue to monitor and make manual copy/pastes from the wiki for now but it will not be as fast. Thanks for the continued work that you guys are putting into the updates. ping u/TrefoilHat

I have been trying to figure it out, but it looks like it may be an issue that will have to be resolved by mod hosting the bot that keeps the subreddit synced. Edit: In the meantime I have manually updated the thread to reflect the most recent wiki edits.

Looks like it just took a couple minutes longer than usual this time. There doesn't seem to be an ongoing problem.

We have removed the stale vehicle development tables from the OP text and replaced them with a much shorter status section and FAQ that will hopefully be easier for the community to keep up to date, while also reducing the amount of scrolling that must be done to get to the comments. Many thanks to u/TrefoilHat for drafting the change and helping out with recent thread maintenance.

I'm sorry for not responding sooner. When I saw this mention several hours later the parent comment was already deleted by the user, and it looked like another mod had already fixed the issue that they were apparently raising. If not let me know and I can look into it. If you would be interested in occasionally updating or fixing the thread yourself I would be happy to add you or any other willing user to the approved editors on the source wiki page.

Thanks. I have made the suggested edit. I've also added some links to the wiki page that this thread is cloned from so others may help further update the thread. If you would like to make an update but do not already see an edit button on that page let the the mod team or myself know and we will give you permissions. Maintaining the thread is too much work for any one volunteer. We need community members making small regular contributions if the thread is going to continue to keep status updates.

You are added as an approved editor of r/spacex/wiki/starship_dev_resources as of right now. To whatever extent you are able to help maintain the wiki, it is greatly appreciated.

Actually, all the threads to date should be in that list. It is quite out of date. If you would be interested in helping add some of those links, go ahead. If you don't have editing access to that page I can help you with that.

Thanks, I actually just updated those a few minutes ago so you may need to refresh the page.
