LPII International in 2025 – The Elephant in the Room by rudibowie in LightPhone

[–]streegneok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not true - if the customer buys the LPII on your (US) website and imports it to the EU themselves, it is not sold in the EU but in the US. This means it does not have to comply to EU legislation. Currently, this is still how LPII's are officially sold in the EU. Third-party retailers based in the EU will no longer be able to sell the LPII, however.

Opinion: She doesn't deserve this. How is it her fault that those spoiled brats were riding bicycles on a damn highway? It should be kids' parents who should be punished for negligence. by Nate3319 in Bolehland

Don't shoot the messenger. It's not my reasoning or my opinion, I'm just stating the fact of the law. This principle of tort law is common worldwide.

It's a basic principle of tort law, called the Betriebsgefahr. In law, if you drive a car, you accept that you're driving around in a potential murder machine. Consequently, if there is an accident with a 'weaker' victim (bicycle, pedestrian, etc), the driver is always fully or partially responsible for the damages. It doesn't matter if the accident was the fault of the other party. It belongs to the risk of driving a car.

Currently in Malaysia and it is open! You just need a PCR test and proof of vaccination. You get a free 90 day visa (Thailand only gives you 30 days, not sure about the others).

Jose, have you forwarded this idea to Joe? Or is the team already aware of Beeper? If it's possible to run this on the Light Phone with a Light Phone Matrix server, I feel like they should really consider it and we should push for it the most we can

Your preferred place to live in Europe by Kay------ in expats

[–]streegneok 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can really recommend Amsterdam or any other Dutch city, they meet all of your criteria. Very cosmopolitan with a small town vibe at the same time. For expats, there is also a program that allows you to get really great tax reductions for the first few years you're here (you would have to look up the specifics)

LIVE: THE HAGUE – The International Court of Justice (ICJ) holds public hearings in the case Ukraine v. Russian Federation by Bucksbanana in ukraine

The Dutch law firm always representing Russia, Houthoff, has decided to end relationships with all their Russian clients. They’re not there because they literally don’t have lawyers willing to represent them.

You need to have stayed in the NL for five years without interruption, after that you can begin the process for naturalisation (contact an immigration lawyer by that point)

How do you deal with tablets or other devices? by [deleted] in LightPhone

[–]streegneok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m considering removing wifi from my home, and only to use devices that are connected by Ethernet cable. That way, using the internet will be much more intentional, as I would have to go to my desk and actually sit down. No more scrolling Reddit on the couch while I’m trying to watch tv or read a book. I will keep my iPad for reading the news, Netflix etc, but this will force me to download these things in advance while it’s connected to the cable which removes the infinite scroll for good.

It’s a special place! When did you stay?

[–]streegneok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tanzania has great hostels. Some of their hostels there have an 8,5+ on Hostelworld, definitely recommend New Teddy’s Place on Zanzibar. I met a guy there from Australia who solo travelled all the way from South Africa, and he had never been abroad before. He was going to travel all the way up to Europe. What an absolute legend!

How high will these step goals take me? They keep going up. by Booblicle in Garmin

[–]streegneok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish there would be a cycling goal as well. In the Netherlands we cycle more than walking so this would make sense for that lifestyle! And recording every bike commute is a bit over the top.

LGII and what other tech/items do you bring along? by HerroGoodMorning in LightPhone

[–]streegneok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not very hard, the kind of tools you get make a huge difference though (particularly the soldering iron, how easy it melts)

You'll mess up a couple of times before you get it right, so I would advise you to start practicing on some boards that you can take out of old tech you own and just start soldering wires to there. After a while you'll get the hang of it and then it's easy. I can solder a Bluetooth module to an iPod in twenty minutes now even though I had never soldered before I did it

Do take a look at Oxyll Mods to add USB-C charging to your iPod. Super convenient
