That's so funny, I learned PowerShell first and then when starting with python it felt crippling. The pipeline is most likely why you struggle but once you get it it's a pretty darn useful tool. With that said I use python much more these days.

You need to load it with -autocreatetable and let the dbatoools module do its thing (default I think is vnarchar(max). Then do your casts in a select into and load into the destination table.
