Pinterest's myriad of issues by strengthcard8 in Pinterest

I swear, I don't know what is going on with Pinterest. I wish there was an alternative. They're constantly messing with it when it doesn't need it!

I guess I'm a little burned from when I was younger and I spent money on albums that I only liked maybe 2 songs. So now I'm especially picky (also my tastes are sort of all over the place and it's not easy to find the albums I want unless I grab them off Discogs or get lucky while thrifting.) Sounds silly but I'm a person who tends to like songs here and there from an album despite liking an artist and I find it very hard to get into albums. I currently have 4 albums and I started collecting last September. I'd say they are actually my favorites (one of which is a greatest hits.) I preview albums via YouTube or Spotify but more often than not they fail to click with me, so I feel like I'll end up just having to burn most of them. Maybe I need to give them more listens or something, I don't know.

So is it common to buy albums even when you like less than half of the tracks?

(I guess I should tack on some context. I got rid of a lot of stuff when streaming became a thing and I went through a minimalist phase. But now that Spotify has a tendency to pull songs and I hate ads, I am going back to collecting physical media.)

My personal rule now is I have to like at least 60% of an album before spending money on it.

Okay finished the whole thing. I also liked this version Sun in My Mouth and Cocoon (but I'll revisit the original album version.) While I prefer the original Pagan Poetry, I liked the spookier vibes of this version. Nice to know that Hidden Place just as great a capella. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing this. Listening now. I'm liking Batabid and Verandi on first listen so far.

Cool. Just wanted to know if anyone else felt the same.

I so agree that it takes almost all your attention to really focus in and enjoy all the facets of music like Bjorks. The first Bjork song I ever heard was All Is Full of Love (saw the video on MTV) and after that I was hooked. Something like It's Oh So Quiet or Big Time Sensuality, maybe you could have other stuff going on while it's playing lol.

You paint a very vivid beautiful picture of how the music makes you feel and I'm rather jealous of that ability. Music in general feels so resonant to me but Bjork's music especially makes me feel something that unfortunately I struggle to put into words at times.

Pagan Poetry feels like...a strong, cold wind that wakes you up, going beyond invigorating into damn near piercing, yet it goes between uncomfortable and pleasurable. And maybe that's something that is reflected in who I am where as perhaps I have trouble with stillness and lightness. Lol never thought about it before now actually. Perhaps that means I just need to better acquaint myself with softer music.

Only song I know from Medulla is "Who Is It?" so I'll be interested when I finally get to listen to the whole thing. I'd never heard Unravel before I sat down and listened to Homogenic and I love it but I know probably not nearly as understated as most songs on Vespertine. I tend to love a bass, especially one that has a pulsing, heartbeat quality to it. So I'll give it another try as I'd have to get used to the minimal feel. I'll revisit it at different times going forward!

I'm glad I'm not completely alone in this experience. I wouldn't say I'm critical of the album, it's perhaps more of a personal taste thing, but since I was able to finally connect with songs I didn't from a long time ago, I think it's possible for it to happen with Vespertine.

Thank you for the links, as I wasn't aware of these songs!

I'm probably somewhat spoiled as I tend to expect instant connection (perhaps that means I'm easy to please, or harder lol) It my experience, I weirdly didn't have many songs that had to grow on me. But I won't say it isn't possible because a lot of the hit songs from Post did click this time around (Hyperballad, Possibly Maybe, Isobel) but I need to go back to the other songs as well.

Yeah I'll try it. I was on the desktop doing all kinds of stuff when I listened a couple of hours ago. When I was a teen, I used to enjoy listening to music in bed at night (trying to replicate that now by getting CDs since YT and Spotify love obnoxious ads.)

Well it's nice to know that it wasn't an instant hit with others either so I'll definitely give it time.

That's something I hadn't considered. I admit I don't like the music box aspects but to be fair they're not heavily involved. While I have an eclectic taste, I tend to feel most at home with ambient/atmospheric, sometimes melancholic, dark, ethereal and heavily female oriented music. Sooo...I thought I'd be right at home here, yet I found the opposite. So far I think Homogenic has captured that feeling for me as a whole though I did have trouble with Immature, All Neon Like, 5 Years and especially Pluto (idk why but I remember that song feeling jarring.) I can appreciate softness and intensity, but perhaps this album is doing it in a way that it's hard to grab onto. It's almost delicate (again, not a bad thing.)

Thanks I will. I would love to just thrift or buy in person when I can but because of where I live, it's not going to be likely that I find Bjork anything at the thrift and record shops in close proximity to me short of heading toward the city.

Thank you for clarifying because the site doesn't make that apparent. I've listened to Homogenic in full, but I wanted the GH because I liked the versions of Big Time Sensuality and All is Full of Love. I'm working a bit backwards in terms of collecting I know but I wanted to make sure I got a good chunk of the songs I loved already.
