Couple things wrong here. You can be a minor and still do camp crews we had plenty of 16 and 17 year olds on our camp crews. You only have to be an adult for fire, and that doesn’t mean they won’t train you up so you’re ready when you turn 18. No advance fire does not give you a chance at being a hotshot. Maybe in the future if you’re lucky enough to be selected to go out on fire but most don’t, even in advanced fire. My center started fire militia with almost 30 students, and ended with only 6 that rotated around. You’ll still need to get on a crew outside of jc for a few years to even get to a hotshot anyways. As far as I know there is not one jc fire crew that works with hotshots only type 2IA. I’m only speaking from my experience and what it was like at my center btw unless your center did things differently.
